Journal ArticleDOI

Application of the Fenton process to the dissolution and mineralization of ion exchange resins

TL;DR: In this article, the optimal experimental design methodology (OED) was used to investigate the effects of primary reaction parameters (Fe(II)- and H 2 O 2 -concentrations and temperature) and to find the best parameter ranges for process optimization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vacuum-ultraviolet photochemically initiated modification of polystyrene surfaces: morphological changes and mechanistic investigations.

TL;DR: Evidence is brought of two different reaction pathways: introduction of OH- and C=O-groups at the polystyrene pathways is mainly due to the reaction of reactive oxygen species produced in the gas phase between the VUV-radiation source and the substrate and oxidative fragmentation leading to morphological changes is initiated by electronic excitation of the polymer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Formation of hydrogen peroxide by VUV-photolysis of water and aqueous solutions with methanol

TL;DR: It is confirmed that enhanced hydrogen peroxide production takes place upon VUV irradiation of aqueous solutions of organic compounds and that recombination of hydroxyl radicals is kinetically disfavoured.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quenching of singlet oxygen (1Δg) by humic substances

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the quenching of singlet oxygen (O21Δg) by humic substances (HSs) of different origins by measurements of the Singlet oxygen luminescence at 1270 nm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Singlet-oxygen quenching by carotenoids: steady-state luminescence experiments

TL;DR: In this article, the near-infrared luminescence of singlet oxygen (1O2) has been measured in order to determine the efficiency of 1O2 quenching by two carotenoid compounds, β-carotene and canthaxanthin.
