Journal ArticleDOI
Finerenone in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease and Type 2 Diabetes by Sodium–Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitor Treatment: The FIDELITY Analysis
Peter Rossing,Stefan D. Anker,Gerasimos Filippatos,Bertram Pitt,Luis M. Ruilope,Andreas L. Birkenfeld,Janet B. McGill,Sylvia E. Rosas,Amer Joseph,Martin Gebel,Luke Roberts,Markus F. Scheerer,George L. Bakris,Rajiv Agarwal +13 more
TL;DR: Benefits of finerenone compared with placebo on cardiorenal outcomes in patients with CKD and type 2 diabetes were observed irrespective of SGLT2i use.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemerin in peritoneal sepsis and its associations with glucose metabolism and prognosis: a translational cross-sectional study
Paul Horn,Uta Metzing,Ricardo Steidl,Bernd F. M. Romeike,Falk Rauchfuß,Christoph Sponholz,Daniel Thomas-Rüddel,Katrin Ludewig,Andreas L. Birkenfeld,Andreas L. Birkenfeld,Utz Settmacher,Michael Bauer,Ralf A. Claus,Christian von Loeffelholz +13 more
TL;DR: It is shown, for the first time to the authors' knowledge, that chemerin is increased in sepsis and that it associates with impaired glucose metabolism and survival in these patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atp6ap2 deletion causes extensive vacuolation that consumes the insulin content of pancreatic β cells
Katrina J. Binger,Martin Neukam,Sudhir Gopal Tattikota,Fatimunnisa Qadri,Dmytro Puchkov,Diana M. Willmes,Sabrina Wurmsee,Sabrina Geisberger,Ralf Dechend,Klemens Raile,Thomas Kurth,Genevieve Nguyen,Matthew N. Poy,Michele Solimena,Dominik N. Müller,Andreas L. Birkenfeld,Andreas L. Birkenfeld,Andreas L. Birkenfeld +17 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Cre recombinase-mediated conditional deletion of Atp6ap2 in mouse β cells causes a dramatic accumulation of large, multigranular vacuoles in the cytoplasm, with reduction of insulin content and compromised glucose homeostasis, and that a balanced regulation of granule turnover is key to maintaining β cell function and diabetes prevention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic Influences on the Pharmacokinetics of Orally and Intravenously Administered Digoxin as Exhibited by Monozygotic Twins
Andreas L. Birkenfeld,Jens Jordan,Ute Hofmann,Andreas Busjahn,G Franke,N Krüger,Svitlana Igel,Thomas E. Mürdter,Siegfried Drescher,Siegfried Drescher,S Shi,S Shi,S. Engeli,Matthias Schwab,Michel Eichelbaum,Friedrich C. Luft,Martin F. Fromm +16 more
TL;DR: The disposition of digoxin, a frequently used probe drug for P‐glycoprotein function in humans, in monozygotic (MZ) twins is studied and found that digoxin pharmacokinetics after oral and intravenous administration are highly correlated within MZ twins, supporting the hypothesis of a robust contribution from genetic variance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced insulin signaling in density-enhanced phosphatase-1 (DEP-1) knockout mice.
Janine Krüger,Sebastian Brachs,Manuela Trappiel,Ulrich Kintscher,Heike Meyborg,Ernst Wellnhofer,Christa Thöne-Reineke,Philipp Stawowy,Arne Östman,Andreas L. Birkenfeld,Frank-D. Böhmer,Kai Kappert +11 more
TL;DR: DEP-1 is established as novel negative regulator of insulin signaling by employing a conventional knockout model to explore the specific contribution of DEP-1 in metabolic tissues and beneficial effect on glucose homeostasis in vivo is corroborated.
