Journal ArticleDOI

Origin of land plants: Do conjugating green algae hold the key?

TL;DR: A large data set of nuclear-encoded genes from 40 green plant taxa including 21 embryophytes and six streptophyte algae is used to investigate the phylogenetic relationships of streptophical algal lineages, and phylogenetic analyses indicate that either the Zygnematales or a clade consisting of the Zyghmatales and the Coleochaetales are the sister group to embryophyts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microarray analysis of salicylic acid- and jasmonic acid-signalling in responses of Nicotiana attenuata to attack by insects from multiple feeding guilds

TL;DR: Systemic responses to M. sexta attack were similar to the responses in locally attacked tissues; however, the up-regulation of genes was more attenuated and resembled the responses to attack from the other Lepidopteran, S. littoralis, and to methyl-JA elicitation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcriptome analysis of the sex pheromone gland of the noctuid moth Heliothis virescens

TL;DR: This work used a transcriptomic approach to characterize the pheromone gland of the Noctuid moth Heliothis virescens, an important agricultural pest, in order to obtain substantial general sequence information and to identify a range of candidate genes involved in the phersomone biosynthetic pathway.
