Journal ArticleDOI

Role of BRCA2 in control of the RAD51 recombination and DNA repair protein.

TL;DR: It is shown that BRCA2 plays a dual role in regulating the actions of RAD51, a protein essential for homologous recombination and DNA repair, which may be a key event leading to genomic instability and tumorigenesis in patients predisposed to breast and ovarian cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purification and characterization of the human Rad51 protein, an analogue of E. coli RecA.

TL;DR: Using a topological assay, it is demonstrated that hRad51 underwinds duplex DNA, in a reaction dependent upon the presence of ATP or its non‐hydrolysable analogue ATP gamma S.A.
Journal ArticleDOI

Geometry and physics of knots

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered the properties of particular geometrical forms which they define as "ideal" for a knot with a given topology and assembled from a tube of uniform diameter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification and purification of two distinct complexes containing the five RAD51 paralogs.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the extreme sensitivity of paralog-defective cell lines to cross-linking agents is owing to defects in the processing of incised cross links and the consequential failure to initiate recombinational repair at these sites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of RecA protein spiral filaments in genetic recombination.

TL;DR: Physical and enzymatic studies on RecA protein from Escherichia coli provide the basis for a molecular model of general genetic recombination, a novel feature of which is the role attributed to spiral filaments of RecAprotein.
