Curcumin inhibits glyoxalase 1: a possible link to its anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activity.
Thore Santel,Gabi Pflug,Nasr Y. A. Hemdan,Nasr Y. A. Hemdan,Nasr Y. A. Hemdan,Angelika Schäfer,Marcus Hollenbach,Martin Buchold,Anja Hintersdorf,Inge Lindner,Andreas Otto,Marina Bigl,Ilka Oerlecke,Antje Hutschenreuter,Ulrich Sack,Ulrich Sack,Klaus Huse,Marco Groth,Marco Groth,Claudia Birkemeyer,Wolfgang Schellenberger,Rolf Gebhardt,Mathias Platzer,Thomas S. Weiss,Mookambeswaran A. Vijayalakshmi,Monika Krüger,Gerd Birkenmeier +26 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that inhibition of Glo1 by curcumin may result in non-tolerable levels of MGO and GSH, which, in turn, modulate various metabolic cellular pathways including depletion of cellular ATP and G SH content.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polymyxin B-conjugated alpha 2-macroglobulin as an adjunctive therapy to sepsis: Modes of action and impact on lethality.
Gerd Birkenmeier,Silke Nicklisch,Christiane Pockelt,Andualem Mossie,Volker Steger,Christiane Gläser,Sunna Hauschildt,Elke Usbeck,Klaus Huse,Ulli Sack,Michael Bauer,Angelika Schäfer +11 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that A2M-PMB acts as a polyvalent drug to target different host mediators as well as sepsis inducer at the same time is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of Novel Monoclonal Antibodies for Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) with Potency to Recognize PSA Bound to α2-Macroglobulin
Yvonne Baumgart,Andreas Otto,Angelika Schäfer,Elke Usbeck,Christiane Cott,Astrid Schott,Maria Tornack,Anett Wenzel,Andualem Mossie,Gerd Birkenmeier +9 more
TL;DR: The characterization of four novel mouse monoclonal antibodies (mabs) obtained by immunization with PSA-alpha(2)M complexes could aid in the further development of clinically relevant assays for PSA and PSA (alpha( 2)M) complexes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prostate-specific antigen triggers transformation of seminal α2-macroglobulin (α2-M) and its binding to α2-macroglobulin receptor/low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein (α2-M-R/LRP) on human spermatozoa
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to identify the proteolytic activity which triggers the transformation of human α2‐macroglobulin (α2‐M) in seminal fluid and its binding to its receptor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative Bestimmung von l -Carnitin mit Hilfe von Carnitindehydrogenase aus Pseudomonas putida
W. Schöpp,Angelika Schäfer +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a Methode was beschrieben, die eine quantitative Bestimmung von l-Carnitin durch Einsatz von Carnitindehydrogenase aus Pseudomonas putida in einem einfachen optischen Test bei 340 nm ermoglicht.
