Radar imaging of Kelvin arms of ship wakes
TL;DR: In this article, a composite surface model for the radar backscattering at the ocean surface is used, and the radar signatures of Kelvin arms can be attributed to tilt and hydrodynamic modulation of Bragg waves by the cusp waves.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sulfate source apportionment in the Ny-Ålesund (Svalbard Islands) Arctic aerosol
Roberto Udisti,Andrea Bazzano,Silvia Becagli,Ezio Bolzacchini,Laura Caiazzo,David Cappelletti,Luca Ferrero,Daniele Frosini,Fabio Giardi,Marco Grotti,Angelo Lupi,Mery Malandrino,Mauro Mazzola,Beatrice Moroni,Mirko Severi,Rita Traversi,Angelo Viola,Vito Vitale +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a total of 136 PM10 aerosol samples were collected at the Gruvebadet observatory, Ny-Alesund (Svalbard Islands), during the spring-summer 2014 Italian Arctic Campaign, aiming to evaluate the seasonal pattern of sulfate, as a key component of the Arctic haze.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differing Mechanisms of New Particle Formation at Two Arctic Sites
Lisa Beck,Nina Sarnela,Heikki Junninen,Heikki Junninen,Clara Jule Marie Hoppe,Olga Garmash,F. Bianchi,Matthieu Riva,Matthieu Riva,Clémence Rose,Otso Peräkylä,Daniela Wimmer,Oskari Kausiala,Tuija Jokinen,Lauri Ahonen,Jyri Mikkilä,Jani Hakala,Xu-Cheng He,Jenni Kontkanen,Klara Wolf,David Cappelletti,Mauro Mazzola,Rita Traversi,Chiara Petroselli,Angelo Viola,Vito Vitale,Robert Lange,Andreas Massling,Jakob Klenø Nøjgaard,Radovan Krejci,Linn Karlsson,Paul Zieger,Sehyun Jang,Kitack Lee,Ville Vakkari,Ville Vakkari,Janne Lampilahti,Roseline C. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the very first steps of atmospheric new particle formation, that is, formation of small clusters from compounds present in the gas phase, and candidates for the subsequent growth of these clusters to larger sizes, at two Arctic sites: one surrounded by open waters, the other one by sea ice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Summer boundary-layer height at the plateau site of Dome’C, antarctica
TL;DR: The mean and turbulent structure of the planetary boundary layer using a sodar and a sonic anemometer, and radiative measurements using a radiometer, were carried out in the summer of 1999-2000 at the Antarctic plateau station of Dome C during a two-month period as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
The local wind field at Ny-Å lesund and the Zeppelin mountain at Svalbard
TL;DR: Using a triaxial Doppler sodar, the planetary boundary-layer structure and the wind flow dynamics at the Arctic site Ny-Alesund have been studied in this article.
