Clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with COVID-19 severity in patients with haematological malignancies in Italy: a retrospective, multicentre, cohort study.
Francesco Passamonti,Chiara Cattaneo,Luca Arcaini,Riccardo Bruna,Michele Cavo,Francesco Merli,Emanuele Angelucci,Mauro Krampera,Roberto Cairoli,Matteo G. Della Porta,Nicola Stefano Fracchiolla,Marco Ladetto,Carlo Gambacorti Passerini,Marco Salvini,Monia Marchetti,Roberto M. Lemoli,Alfredo Molteni,Alessandro Busca,Antonio Cuneo,Alessandra Romano,Nicola Giuliani,Sara Galimberti,Alessandro Corso,Alessandro Morotti,Brunangelo Falini,Atto Billio,Filippo Gherlinzoni,Giuseppe Visani,Maria Chiara Tisi,Agostino Tafuri,Patrizia Tosi,Francesco Lanza,Massimo Massaia,Mauro Turrini,Felicetto Ferrara,Carmela Gurrieri,Daniele Vallisa,Maurizio Martelli,Enrico Derenzini,Attilio Guarini,Annarita Conconi,Annarosa Cuccaro,Laura Cudillo,Domenico Russo,Fabrizio Ciambelli,Anna Maria Scattolin,Mario Luppi,Carmine Selleri,Elettra Ortu La Barbera,Celestino Ferrandina,Nicola Di Renzo,Attilio Olivieri,Monica Bocchia,Massimo Gentile,Francesco Marchesi,Pellegrino Musto,Augusto B. Federici,Anna Candoni,Adriano Venditti,Carmen Fava,Antonio Pinto,Piero Galieni,Luigi Rigacci,Daniele Armiento,Fabrizio Pane,Margherita Oberti,Patrizia Zappasodi,Carlo Visco,Matteo Franchi,Paolo Grossi,Lorenza Bertù,Giovanni Corrao,Livio Pagano,Paolo Corradini +73 more
TL;DR: This study adds to the evidence that patients with haematological malignancies have worse outcomes and the general Italian population with COVID-19 has high mortality, by calculating standardised mortality ratios between observed death in the study cohort and expected death by applying stratum-specific mortality rates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating tumor DNA reveals genetics, clonal evolution, and residual disease in classical Hodgkin lymphoma.
Valeria Spina,Alessio Bruscaggin,Annarosa Cuccaro,Maurizio Martini,Martina Di Trani,Gabriela Forestieri,Martina Manzoni,Adalgisa Condoluci,Alberto J. Arribas,Lodovico Terzi-di-Bergamo,Silvia L. Locatelli,Elisa Cupelli,Luca Ceriani,Alden A. Moccia,Anastasios Stathis,Luca Nassi,Clara Deambrogi,Fary Diop,Francesca Guidetti,Alessandra Cocomazzi,Salvatore Annunziata,Vittoria Rufini,Alessandro Giordano,Antonino Neri,Renzo Boldorini,Bernhard Gerber,Francesco Bertoni,Michele Ghielmini,Georg Stussi,Armando Santoro,Franco Cavalli,Emanuele Zucca,Luigi Maria Larocca,Gianluca Gaidano,Stefan Hohaus,Carmelo Carlo-Stella,Davide Rossi +36 more
TL;DR: The results provide the proof of concept that ct DNA may serve as a novel precision medicine biomarker in cHL, and propose ctDNA as a radiation-free tool to track residual disease that may integrate positron emission tomography imaging for the early identification of chemorefractory patients with cHL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anemia in Hodgkin's Lymphoma: The Role of Interleukin-6 and Hepcidin
Stefan Hohaus,Giuseppina Massini,Manuela Giachelia,Barbara Vannata,Valentina Bozzoli,Annarosa Cuccaro,Francesco D'Alo',Luigi Maria Larocca,Reinier Raymakers,Dorine W. Swinkels,Maria Teresa Voso,Giuseppe Leone +11 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that in HL, hepcidin is upregulated by IL-6, which results in iron restriction and signs of anemia of chronic inflammation, although hePCidin-independent mechanisms contribute to development ofAnemia in HL.
Journal ArticleDOI
The viral load of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA in peripheral blood predicts for biological and clinical characteristics in Hodgkin lymphoma.
Stefan Hohaus,Rosaria Santangelo,Manuela Giachelia,Barbara Vannata,Giuseppina Massini,Annarosa Cuccaro,Maurizio Martini,Valeriana Cesarini,Tonia Cenci,Francesco D'Alo',Maria Teresa Voso,Giovanni Fadda,Giuseppe Leone,Luigi Maria Larocca +13 more
TL;DR: The plasma EBV-DNA load at HL diagnosis is an indicator of disease activity and biological characteristics associated with negative prognosis, and the inverse correlation to EBNA1 antibody titers and lymphocyte counts may indicate a reduction in immunosurveillance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic factors in hodgkin lymphoma
Annarosa Cuccaro,Francesca Bartolomei,Elisa Cupelli,Eugenio Galli,Manuela Giachelia,Stefan Hohaus +5 more
TL;DR: The value of prognostic factors has to be updated periodically, and then adapted to new emerging biomarkers, as the number of tumor-infiltrating macrophages, cytokine and chemokine levels and profiling of circulating nucleic acids (DNA and microRNAs) have shown promise.
