The Use and Interpretation of Quasi-Experimental Studies in Medical Informatics
Anthony D. Harris,Jessina C. McGregor,Eli N. Perencevich,Eli N. Perencevich,Jon P. Furuno,Jingkun Zhu,Dan E. Peterson,Joseph Finkelstein +7 more
TL;DR: It is hoped that future medical informatics studies will implement higher level quasi-experimental study designs that yield more convincing evidence for causal links between medical informatic interventions and outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Animal antibiotic use has an early but important impact on the emergence of antibiotic resistance in human commensal bacteria
TL;DR: A mathematical model is developed to evaluate factors affecting the prevalence of human commensal AR bacteria that cause opportunistic infections and suggests that AAU hastens the appearance of AR bacteria in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter infection mortality rate and length of hospitalization.
Rebecca Sunenshine,Marc-Oliver Wright,Lisa L. Maragakis,Anthony D. Harris,Xiaoyan Song,Joan N. Hebden,Sara E. Cosgrove,Ashley Anderson,Jennifer Carnell,Daniel B. Jernigan,David G. Kleinbaum,Trish M Perl,Harold C. Standiford,Arjun Srinivasan +13 more
TL;DR: Increased hospitalization associated with MDR Acinetobacter infection emphasizes the need for infection control strategies to prevent cross-transmission in healthcare settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Binding and Neutralization Antibody Titers After a Single Vaccine Dose in Health Care Workers Previously Infected With SARS-CoV-2.
Saman Saadat,Zahra Rikhtegaran Tehrani,James Logue,Michelle Newman,Matthew B. Frieman,Anthony D. Harris,Mohammad M. Sajadi +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the titers of binding and neutralizing antibodies after a single mRNA coronavirus vaccine dose in health care workers previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 were compared.
Journal ArticleDOI
Universal glove and gown use and acquisition of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the ICU: a randomized trial.
Anthony D. Harris,Lisa Pineles,Beverly M. Belton,J. Kristie Johnson,Michelle Shardell,Mark Loeb,Robin P. Newhouse,Louise M. Dembry,Barbara I. Braun,Eli N. Perencevich,Kendall K. Hall,Daniel J. Morgan,Daniel J. Morgan,Syed K. Shahryar,Connie S. Price,Joseph Gadbaw,Marci Drees,Daniel H. Kett,L. Silvia Munoz-Price,Jesse T. Jacob,Loreen A. Herwaldt,Carol Sulis,Deborah S. Yokoe,Lisa L. Maragakis,Matthew Lissauer,Marcus J. Zervos,David K. Warren,Robin L. Carver,Deverick J. Anderson,David P. Calfee,Jason Bowling,Nasia Safdar +31 more
TL;DR: The use of gloves and gowns for all patient contact among patients in medical and surgical ICUs did not result in a difference in the primary outcome of acquisition of MRSA or VRE, and there was a lower risk of MRsa acquisition alone and no difference in adverse events.
