Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. Theoretical overview on tau physics

A large amount of new results have been presented at TAU2006. The highlights of the workshop, the present status of a few selected topics on lepton physics (universality, QCD tests, Vus determination from τ decay, g − 2 , ν oscillations, lepton-flavour violation) and the prospects for future improvements are briefly summarized.

Tau Physics 2006: Summary & Outlook

The slope of the form factor forπ0→e+e-γ and the real part of the amplitude forπ0→e+e- are calculated by means of the quark triangle mechanism. The correct sign for the form factor slope is reproduced. Theπ0→e+e- rate obtained is slightly larger than the unitarity limit and smaller than the present experimental rate.

Rare decay modes of the neutral pion

We review recent work to determine the strange quark mass m s as well as the proposal to determine | V u s | using hadronic τ decay data. The recent update of the strange spectral function by OPAL and their moments of the invariant mass distribution are employed. Our results are | V u s | = 0.2208 ± 0.0034 and m s ( 2 GeV ) = 81 ± 22  MeV . Our result is already competitive to the standard extraction of | V u s | from K e 3 decays and to the new proposals to determine it. The error on | V u s | is dominated by experiment and will be eventually much improved by the B-factories hadronic τ data. Ultimately, a simultaneous fit to both m s and | V u s | to a set of moments of the hadronic τ decays invariant mass distribution will provide one of the most accurate determinations of these Standard Model parameters.

Extraction of ms and |Vus| from Hadronic Tau Decays

First non-trivial chiral corrections to the magnetic moments of triplet (T) and sextet (S (∗) ) heavy baryons are calculated using Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. Since magnetic moments of the T-hadrons vanish in the limit of infinite heavy quark mass (mQ → ∞), these corrections occur at order O(1/(mQ� 2 )) for T-baryons while for S (∗) -baryons they are of order O(1/� 2 ). The renormalization of the chiral loops is discussed and relations among the magnetic moments of different hadrons are provided. Previous results for T-baryons are revised.
