Journal ArticleDOI
Mir-17-5p Regulates Breast Cancer Cell Proliferation by Inhibiting Translation of AIB1 mRNA
TL;DR: It is revealed that microRNA Mir-17-5p has a role as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer cells and completely abrogated the insulin-like growth factor 1-mediated, anchorage-independent growth of breast cancers cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glioblastoma stem cell-derived exosomes induce M2 macrophages and PD-L1 expression on human monocytes
Konrad Gabrusiewicz,Xu Li,Jun Wei,Yuuri Hashimoto,Anantha Marisetty,Martina Ott,Fei Wang,David H. Hawke,John Yu,Luke M. Healy,Anwar Hossain,Johnny C. Akers,Sourindra Maiti,Shinji Yamashita,Yuzaburo Shimizu,Kenneth Dunner,M. Anna Zal,Jared K. Burks,Joy Gumin,Felix Nwajei,Aras Rezavanian,Shouhao Zhou,Ganesh Rao,Raymond Sawaya,Gregory N. Fuller,Jason T. Huse,Jack P. Antel,Shulin Li,Laurence J.N. Cooper,Erik P. Sulman,Clark C. Chen,Changiz Geula,Raghu Kalluri,Tomasz Zal,Amy B. Heimberger +34 more
TL;DR: It is reported that GSC-derived exosomes (GDEs) have a predilection for monocytes, the precursor to macrophages, and data indicate that GDEs are secreted GBM-released factors that are potent modulators of the G BM-associated immunosuppressive microenvironment.
Journal ArticleDOI
The human sex-determining gene SRY is a direct target of WT1.
Anwar Hossain,Grady F. Saunders +1 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that WT1 regulates SRY in the initial sex determination process in humans and activates a cascade of genes ultimately leading to the complete organogenesis of the testis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exosomes from Glioma-Associated Mesenchymal Stem Cells Increase the Tumorigenicity of Glioma Stem-like Cells via Transfer of miR-1587
Javier Figueroa,Lynette Phillips,Tal Shahar,Anwar Hossain,Joy Gumin,Hoon Kim,Andrew J. Bean,George A. Calin,Juan Fueyo,Edgar T. Walters,Raghu Kalluri,Roeland Verhaak,Frederick F. Lang +12 more
TL;DR: It is shown that glioma-associated human mesenchymal stem cells (GA-hMSC), a newly identified stromal component of glioblastoma, release exosomes that increase the proliferation and clonogenicity of tumor-initiatingglioma stem-like cells (GSC), leading to a significantly greater tumor burden and decreased host survival compared with untreated GSCs in orthotopic xenografts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mesenchymal Stem Cells Isolated from Human Gliomas Increase Proliferation and Maintain Stemness of Glioma Stem Cells Through the IL-6/gp130/STAT3 Pathway
Anwar Hossain,Joy Gumin,Feng Gao,Javier Figueroa,Naoki Shinojima,Tatsuya Takezaki,Waldemar Priebe,Diana Villarreal,Seok Gu Kang,Celine Joyce,Erik P. Sulman,Qianghu Wang,Frank C. Marini,Michael Andreeff,Howard Colman,Frederick F. Lang +15 more
TL;DR: GA‐hMSCs increase proliferation and self‐renewal of GSCs in vitro and enhance GSC tumorigenicity and mesenchymal features in vivo, confirming their functional significance within the GSC niche.
