Journal Article

Role of genetic polymorphism of human plasma paraoxonase/arylesterase in hydrolysis of the insecticide metabolites chlorpyrifos oxon and paraoxon.

TL;DR: The ratio of paraoxonase over that of chlorpyrifos oxonase provided an excellent method for genetic typing of the paraox onase polymorphism, as did the substitution of phenylacetate for chlorparyifos as the substrate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reporting Genetic Results in Research Studies: Summary and Recommendations of an NHLBI Working Group

TL;DR: A Working Group on Reporting Genetic Results in Research Studies concluded that genetic test results should be reported to study participants when the associated risk for the disease is significant; the disease has important health implications such as premature death or substantial morbidity or has significant reproductive implications; and proven therapeutic or preventive interventions are available.
Journal ArticleDOI

Frequency of sickling disorders in U.S. blacks.

TL;DR: It is recognized that the sickle-cell trait and the hemoglobin C trait are common among blacks in the United States and will not be discovered in many routine screening programs since detection requires special technics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Serum paraoxonase and its influence on paraoxon and chlorpyrifos-oxon toxicity in rats.

TL;DR: A very high degree of protection, particularly toward brain and diaphragm cholinesterase, was provided by paraoxonase pretreatment in animals challenged with chlorpyrifos-oxon by all routes.
