Body Mass and Colorectal Cancer Risk in the NIH–AARP Cohort
Kenneth F. Adams,Michael F. Leitzmann,Demetrius Albanes,Victor Kipnis,Traci Mouw,A R Hollenbeck,Arthur Schatzkin +6 more
TL;DR: Examination of the relation between BMI and colorectal cancer incidence in a large, prospective US cohort of 307,708 men and 209,436 women from the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study found BMI was related to increased risk of incident colon cancer, but not rectal cancer, for both men and women.
Journal Article
The polyp prevention trial I: rationale, design, recruitment, and baseline participant characteristics.
Arthur Schatzkin,Elaine Lanza,Laurence S. Freedman,Joseph A. Tangrea,M R Cooper,James R. Marshall,P A Murphy,J V Selby,Moshe Shike,R R Schade,R. W. Burt,James W. Kikendall,Jack Cahill +12 more
TL;DR: The PPT provides 90% power to detect a reduction of 24% in the annual adenoma recurrence rate and 1-year lag time for the intervention to work and allows a more definitive clearing of lesions at T(1), given that at least 10-15% of polyps may be missed at baseline.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antioxidant Micronutrients in Cancer Prevention
TL;DR: Results of studies on the association of antioxidant micronutrients with cancer at many sites are inconsistent and could be due to lack of a true protective effect or to methodologic problems in assessing dietary intake in epidemiologic studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary glycemic index, glycemic load, and risk of cancer: a prospective cohort study.
Stephanie M. George,Susan T. Mayne,Michael F. Leitzmann,Yikyung Park,Arthur Schatzkin,Andrew Flood,Albert R. Hollenbeck,Amy F. Subar +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that glycemic index and glycemic load are not strong predictors of cancer incidence, and the direction and small magnitude of associations might be explained by the manner in which high glycemic Index and Glycemic load track with overall diet and lifestyle patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Education and Risk of Cancer in a Large Cohort of Men and Women in the United States
Traci Mouw,Annemarie Koster,Annemarie Koster,Margaret E. Wright,Madeleine M. Blank,Steven C. Moore,Albert R. Hollenbeck,Arthur Schatzkin +7 more
TL;DR: A higher risk of malignant disease, particularly smoking– related cancers, is found among those in the lowest educational attainment category, and only some of the educational gradient is attributable to smoking.
