Physical Activity and Risk of Large Bowel Cancer in the Framingham Study
Rachel Ballard-Barbash,Arthur Schatzkin,Demetrius Albanes,Mark Schiffman,Bernard E. Kreger,William B. Kannel,Keaven M. Anderson,William E. Helsel +7 more
TL;DR: Inactivity was associated with an increased risk of large bowel cancer among men but not among women, and these findings were unchanged after adjustment for body mass index, serum cholesterol, alcohol, and other potentially confounding variables.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective study of dietary fiber, whole grain foods, and small intestinal cancer.
TL;DR: In conjunction with the anatomic and physiologic commonalities of the large and small bowel, as well as the mutually increased risks for second cancer for both organs, grain fiber and whole grain foods seem to protect against lower gastrointestinal cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Postpolypectomy Colonoscopy Surveillance Guidelines: Predictive Accuracy for Advanced Adenoma at 4 Years
Adeyinka O. Laiyemo,Gwen Murphy,Paul S. Albert,Leah B. Sansbury,Zhuoqiao Wang,Amanda J. Cross,Pamela M. Marcus,Bette J. Caan,James R. Marshall,Peter Lance,Electra D. Paskett,Joel L. Weissfeld,Martha L. Slattery,Randall W. Burt,Frank Iber,Moshe Shike,J. Walter Kikendall,Elaine Lanza,Arthur Schatzkin +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that the risk for recurrence of advanced adenoma within 4 years of follow-up was greater for patients with high-risk adenomas at baseline than for those with low-risk ones at baseline.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stolzenberg-Solomon,Paul Terry,Paolo Toniolo,Matty P. Weijenberg,Walter C. Willett,Alicja Wolk,Anne Zeleniuch-Jacquotte,David J. Hunter +26 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that higher folate intake is modestly associated with reduced risk of colon cancer is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary fiber intake and risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women: the National Institutes of Health–AARP Diet and Health Study
TL;DR: It is suggested that dietary fiber can play a role in preventing breast cancer through nonestrogen pathways among postmenopausal women.
