Intakes of Fruit, Vegetables, and Carotenoids and Renal Cell Cancer Risk: A Pooled Analysis of 13 Prospective Studies
Jung Eun Lee,Satu Männistö,Donna Spiegelman,David J. Hunter,Leslie Bernstein,Piet A. van den Brandt,Julie E. Buring,Eunyoung Cho,Dallas R. English,Andrew Flood,Jo L. Freudenheim,Graham G. Giles,Edward Giovannucci,Niclas Håkansson,Pamela L. Horn-Ross,Eric J. Jacobs,Michael F. Leitzmann,James R. Marshall,Marjorie L. McCullough,Anthony B. Miller,Thomas E. Rohan,Julie A. Ross,Arthur Schatzkin,Leo J. Schouten,Jarmo Virtamo,Alicja Wolk,Shumin M. Zhang,Stephanie A. Smith-Warner +27 more
TL;DR: It is found that increasing fruit and vegetable consumption is associated with decreasing risk of renal cell cancer; carotenoids present in fruit and vegetables may partly contribute to this protection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nutrition and Physical Activity and Chronic Disease Prevention: Research Strategies and Recommendations
Ross L. Prentice,Walter C. Willett,Peter Greenwald,David S. Alberts,Leslie Bernstein,Norman F. Boyd,Tim Byers,Steven K. Clinton,Gary E. Fraser,Laurence S. Freedman,David G. Hunter,Victor Kipnis,Laurence N. Kolonel,Bruce S. Kristal,Alan R. Kristal,Johanna W. Lampe,Anne McTiernan,John A. Milner,Ruth E. Patterson,John D. Potter,Elio Riboli,Arthur Schatzkin,Allison A. Yates,Elizabeth A Yetley +23 more
TL;DR: Some perspectives on useful methodology and infrastructure developments for progress in this important area of nutrition and physical activity intervention trials are put forward.
Journal ArticleDOI
Supplemental and dietary vitamin E intakes and risk of prostate cancer in a large prospective study.
Margaret E. Wright,Margaret E. Wright,Stephanie J. Weinstein,Karla A. Lawson,Demetrius Albanes,Amy F. Subar,L. Beth Dixon,Traci Mouw,Arthur Schatzkin,Michael F. Leitzmann +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that supplemental vitamin E does not protect against prostate cancer, but that increased consumption of γ-tocopherol from foods is associated with a reduced risk of clinically relevant disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
The association of calcium and vitamin D with risk of colorectal adenomas.
Terryl J. Hartman,Paul S. Albert,Kirk Snyder,Martha L. Slattery,Bette J. Caan,Electra D. Paskett,Frank Iber,James W. Kikendall,James R. Marshall,Moshe Shike,Joel L. Weissfeld,Brenda K. Brewer,Arthur Schatzkin,Elaine Lanza +13 more
TL;DR: This trial cohort provides some evidence that calcium and vitamin D may be inversely associated with adenoma recurrence, and slightly stronger associations were noted for the prevention of multiple recurrences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcohol, Smoking, and Body Size in Relation to Incident Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Risk
Unhee Lim,Lindsay M. Morton,Amy F. Subar,Dalsu Baris,Rachael Z. Stolzenberg-Solomon,Michael F. Leitzmann,Victor Kipnis,Traci Mouw,Leslie Carroll,Arthur Schatzkin,Patricia Hartge +10 more
TL;DR: Evidence is added that lifestyle factors and relevant anthropometric characteristics play a role in lymphoma etiology through linkage with cancer registries from 1995 to 2000 and in the prospective National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study.
