Reactive Oxygen Species in Health and Disease
Assim A. Alfadda,Reem M. Sallam +1 more
TL;DR: This review summarizes the key roles played by the ROS in both health and disease and provides brief perspective on some of the current research conducted in this area for better understanding of the ROS actions in various conditions of health and Disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Obesity-induced DNA hypermethylation of the adiponectin gene mediates insulin resistance
A Young Kim,Yoon Jeong Park,Xuebo Pan,Kyung Cheul Shin,Soo Heon Kwak,Abdulelah F. Bassas,Reem M. Sallam,Kyong Soo Park,Kyong Soo Park,Assim A. Alfadda,Aimin Xu,Jae Bum Kim +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that DNA hypermethylation of a particular region of the adiponectin promoter suppresses adiponECTin expression through epigenetic control and, in turn, exacerbates metabolic diseases in obesity, implying that modulating DNMT1 activity represents a new strategy for the treatment of obesity-related diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hyaluronic Acid Coated Chitosan Nanoparticles Reduced the Immunogenicity of the Formed Protein Corona.
Abdulaziz Almalik,Hicham Benabdelkamel,Afshan Masood,Ibrahim O. Alanazi,Ibrahim Alradwan,Majed A. Majrashi,Assim A. Alfadda,Waleed M. Alghamdi,Haitham AlRabiah,Nicola Tirelli,Ali H. Alhasan +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that this proof-of-concept could potentially be utilized to reduce the immunogenicity of a wide range of nanomaterials.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Novel Function of Adipocytes in Lipid Antigen Presentation to iNKT Cells
Jin Young Huh,Jong In Kim,Yoon Jeong Park,In Jae Hwang,Yun Sok Lee,Jee Hyung Sohn,Sung Kyu Lee,Assim A. Alfadda,Su Sung Kim,Sung Hee Choi,Dong Sup Lee,Se Ho Park,Rho Hyun Seong,Cheol Soo Choi,Jae Bum Kim +14 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that adipocytes regulate iNKT cell activity via CD1d and that the interaction between adipocytes and iN KT cells may modulate adipose tissue inflammation in obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adipocytokine orosomucoid integrates inflammatory and metabolic signals to preserve energy homeostasis by resolving immoderate inflammation.
Yun Sok Lee,Jin Woo Choi,Injae Hwang,Joo-Won Lee,Lee Jaeho,A Young Kim,Jin Young Huh,Young Jun Koh,Gou Young Koh,Hee Jung Son,Hiroaki Masuzaki,Kikuko Hotta,Assim A. Alfadda,Jae Bum Kim +13 more
TL;DR: Orosomucoid (ORM) is an abundant plasma protein that is an immunomodulator induced by stressful conditions such as infections as mentioned in this paper, which is found in increased levels in the adipose tissue of morbid obese subjects.
