Handbook of Solubility Data for Pharmaceuticals

As a novel class of porous crystalline materials, hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs), self-assembled from organic or metal-organic building blocks through intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions, have attracted more and more attention. Over the past decade, a number of porous HOFs have been constructed through judicious selection of H-bonding motifs, which are further enforced by other weak intermolecular interactions such as π-π stacking and van der Waals forces and framework interpenetration. Since the H-bonds are weaker than coordinate and covalent bonds used for the construction of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), HOFs have some unique features such as mild synthesis condition, solution processability, easy healing, and regeneration. These features enable HOFs to be a tunable platform for the construction of functional materials. Here, we review the H-bonding motifs used for constructing porous HOFs and highlight some of their applications, including gas separation and storage, chiral separation and structure determination, fluorescent sensing, heterogeneous catalysis, biological applications, proton conduction, photoluminescent materials, and membrane-based applications.

The 31 P NMR spectra of triethylphosphine oxide (Et 3 PO) undergoes a shift upon interaction in solution with adjacent molecules. The oxygen of Et 3 PO is a strong electron donor and readily forms acid-base complexes with electron acceptors, with a consequent downfield shift in the 31 P NMR spectrum (Δδ ab ). We find that the 31 P NMR spectrum also is shifted downfield appreciably by van der Waals (largery dispersion force) interactions with solvents (Δδ d )

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is the most used biopolymer for food packaging applications. Several strategies have been made to improve PLA properties for extending its applications in the packaging field. Melt blending approaches are gaining considerable interest since they are easy, cost-effective and readily available processing technologies at the industrial level. With a similar melting temperature and high crystallinity, poly(hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) represents a good candidate to blend with PLA. The ability of PHB to act as a nucleating agent for PLA improves its mechanical resistance and barrier performance. With the dual objective to improve PLAPHB processing performance and to obtain stretchable materials, plasticizers are frequently added. Current trends to enhance PLA-PHB miscibility are focused on the development of composite and nanocomposites. PLA-PHB blends are also interesting for the controlled release of active compounds in the development of active packaging systems. This review explains the most relevant processing aspects of PLA-PHB based blends such as the influence of polymers molecular weight, the PLA-PHB composition as well as the thermal stability. It also summarizes the recent developments in PLA-PHB formulations with an emphasis on their performance with interest in the sustainable food packaging field. PLA-PHB blends shows highly promising perspectives for the replacement of traditional petrochemical based polymers currently used for food packaging.

The invention provides a static multistage melting crystallization method for preparing electronic grade phosphoric acid The method comprises the following steps of: adding phosphoric acid liquid serving as a raw material into a crystallization tower at one time, and introducing a cooling/heating medium to a crystallization tower jacket to control the temperature of the phosphoric acid liquid; adding crystal seeds into the crystallization tower at constant temperature when the phosphoric acid liquid is cooled to the temperature of between 15 and 28 DEG C; and performing static melting crystallization operations of two to four stages by the following steps of: cooling and crystallizing the materials, discharging partial mother solution at constant temperature, heating and melting to the constant temperature, continuously performing the operation of next stage at the temperature, and gradually discharging the mother solution for N times in equal mass to gradually improve the purity of the phosphoric acid crystal Finally, the left crystal in the tower is the product, and the crystal is melted by heating and collected The method is simple in operation, low in energy consumption and mild in operating conditions; the product has high purity; an 88 to 90 percent electronic grade phosphoric acid liquid product is directly obtained; and the product purity index accords with multiple standards of domestic and foreign users

Mechanistic Study on the Effect of Magnetic Field on the Crystallization of Organic Small Molecules

The solubility of cefuroxime acid in four pure solvents and three binary solvents formed by water + acetone, ethanol + acetone, and 2-propanol + acetone at atmospheric pressure has been measured via a laser monitoring observation technique over the temperature range from (278.5 to 313.4) K. The solubility of cefuroxime acid increased with increasing temperature in water, 2-propanol, and ethanol but decreased in acetone. The heat flux measurements by a Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and solubility with temperature behavior were consistent. The solubility data of cefuroxime acid in pure solvents were correlated by the modified Apelblat equation, and the maximum average absolute error (AAE) was 0.07. The solubility data of cefuroxime acid in binary solvents at various temperatures were fitted by the Jouyban−Acree model, and the maximum AAE was 0.06.
