Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Intensive BP Control in CKD
Alfred K. Cheung,Mahboob Rahman,Mahboob Rahman,David M. Reboussin,Timothy E. Craven,Tom Greene,Paul L. Kimmel,William C. Cushman,Amret T. Hawfield,Karen C. Johnson,Cora E. Lewis,Suzanne Oparil,Michael V. Rocco,Kaycee M. Sink,Paul K. Whelton,Jackson T. Wright,Jan Basile,Jan Basile,Srinivasan Beddhu,Udayan Bhatt,Tara I. Chang,Glenn M. Chertow,Michel Chonchol,Barry I. Freedman,William E. Haley,Joachim H. Ix,Lois A. Katz,Lois A. Katz,Anthony A. Killeen,Vasilios Papademetriou,Ana C. Ricardo,Karen S. Servilla,Barry M. Wall,Barry M. Wall,Dawn F. Wolfgram,Jerry Yee +35 more
TL;DR: Among patients with CKD and hypertension without diabetes, targeting an SBP<120 mm Hg compared with <140mm Hg reduced rates of major cardiovascular events and all-cause death without evidence of effect modifications by CKD or deleterious effect on the main kidney outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of intensive systolic blood pressure control on kidney and cardiovascular outcomes in persons without kidney disease
Srinivasan Beddhu,Michael V. Rocco,Robert D. Toto,Timothy E. Craven,Tom Greene,Udayan Bhatt,Alfred K. Cheung,Debbie L. Cohen,Barry I. Freedman,Amret T. Hawfield,Anthony A. Killeen,Paul L. Kimmel,James P. Lash,Vasilios Papademetriou,Mahboob Rahman,Anjay Rastogi,Karen S. Servilla,Raymond R. Townsend,Barry M. Wall,Paul K. Whelton +19 more
TL;DR: Intensive SBP lowering increased risk for incident CKD events, but this was outweighed by cardiovascular and all-cause mortality benefits and long-term data were lacking.
Journal ArticleDOI
Renal pathology resulting from PGHS-2 gene ablation in DBA/B6 mice.
Stanley J.F. Laulederkind,Stanley J.F. Laulederkind,Barry M. Wall,Leslie R. Ballou,Leslie R. Ballou,Rajendra Raghow,Rajendra Raghow +6 more
TL;DR: In a mixed DBA/B6 background, the lack of a functional PGHS-2 gene causes less severe renal pathology than was reported previously for PG HS-2 null mice in a B6 genetic background.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of timed semirecumbency and furosemide dosing on urinary sodium excretion in patients with compensated heart failure.
Rami N. Khouzam,Maeda D. Nelson,Jimmy E. Klemis,Karl T. Weber,Barry M. Wall,Therese A. Mangold +5 more
TL;DR: In patients with compensated chronic cardiac failure, the natriuresis that accompanies oral furosemide dosing is enhanced when given just prior to a period of timed semirecumbency, which represents a more optimal use of this loop diuretic in patients with compensation heart failure.
Acid-Base and Electrolyte Teaching Case A Clinical Approach to the Treatment of Chronic Hypernatremia
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provided a clinically based quantitative approach to the treatment of both hypervolemic and hypovolemic hypernatremia, which occurred in the same patient during the course of a prolonged illness.
