Characterizing Use of Growth-friendly Implants for Early-onset Scoliosis: A 10-Year Update.
Walter Klyce,Walter Klyce,Stuart L. Mitchell,Jeff Pawelek,David L. Skaggs,James O Sanders,Suken A. Shah,Richard E. McCarthy,Scott J. Luhmann,Peter Sturm,Peter Sturm,John M. Flynn,John T. Smith,Behrooz A. Akbarnia,Paul D. Sponseller +14 more
TL;DR: From 2007 to 2017, neuromuscular EOS was the most common diagnosis for patients treated with growth-friendly implants and the use of magnetically controlled growing rods increased during this time, while preoperative curve magnitude, traditional growing rod lengthening intervals, and rates of final fusion did not change.
Journal ArticleDOI
An unusual cause of low back pain: Osteomyelitis of the spinous process
Anthony M. Buoncristiani,Geoffrey M. Mccullen,Alexander Y. Shin,Beth Bathgate,Behrooz A. Akbarnia +4 more
TL;DR: The diagnosis, treatment, and outcome of two patients with spinous process osteomyelitis (an adult and a child) with insidious, nonspecific lumbar pain and fever are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgeon practices regarding infection prevention for growth friendly spinal procedures
Michael P. Glotzbecker,Sumeet Garg,Behrooz A. Akbarnia,Michael G. Vitale,Tricia St Hillaire,Ajeya P. Joshi +5 more
TL;DR: Significant variability in practice was demonstrated across the majority of the questions answered, and areas of clinical equipoise can be used to help design and direct multicenter studies with an ultimate goal of reducing infections in this population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preoperative Planning for Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy: Does Pelvic Tilt Matter?
Virginie Lafage,Benjamin Blondel,Benjamin Blondel,Justin S. Smith,Oheneba Boachie-Adjei,Richard A. Hostin,Douglas Burton,Gregory M. Mundis,Eric O. Klineberg,Christopher P. Ames,Behrooz A. Akbarnia,Shay Bess,Frank J. Schwab +12 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates that patients with high PT in conjunction with sagittal spinal malalignment require larger LPSO procedures, including a greater osteotomy resection and larger lumbar lordosis correction, to obtain a satisfactory postoperative SVA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparing health-related quality of life and burden of care between early-onset scoliosis patients treated with magnetically controlled growing rods and traditional growing rods: a multicenter study
Hiroko Matsumoto,David L. Skaggs,Behrooz A. Akbarnia,Jeff Pawelek,Tricia St. Hilaire,Sonya Levine,Peter Sturm,Francisco Javier Sánchez Pérez-Grueso,Scott J. Luhmann,Paul D. Sponseller,John T. Smith,Klane K. White,Michael G. Vitale +12 more
TL;DR: The results may prove the hypothesis that compared to TGR, MCGR with reduced number of surgeries have better psychosocial effects and improve pain, emotion and satisfaction scores.
