Heavy metals and arsenic concentrations in ten fish species from the Šalek lakes (Slovenia): assessment of potential human health risk due to fish consumption

TL;DR: The result obtained regarding metal concentrations in fish revealed that the ecosystems of the Šalek lakes are not polluted with Hg and Pb, slightly loaded with As and Cd and moderately polluted with Zn and the potential human health risk due to fish consumption was assessed and showed that the estimated weekly intakes were far below provisional permissible tolerable weekly intakes determined by WHO/FAO.
Book ChapterDOI

Traffic collisions involving deer and other ungulates in Europe and available measures for mitigation.

TL;DR: In this paper, Apollonio et al. showed that the number of road traffic accidents involving wildlife also escalates throughout Europe, and suggested that vehicle-ungulate collisions in Europe as a whole may have been of the order of 500 000.
Journal ArticleDOI

Challenges and science-based implications for modern management and conservation of European ungulate populations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors address the most important issues characterising current ungulate conservation and management in Europe and present some key points arising from ecological research that may be critical for a reassessment of ungulated management in the future.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heavy Metal Concentrations in Food Chain of Lake Velenjsko jezero, Slovenia: An Artificial Lake from Mining

TL;DR: Levels of Hg in fish muscle and liver were the same and markedly higher than in gills, however, in muscle, the average concentrations of each metal were below their maximum limits, determined either by Slovenian legislation or by the Food and Agriculture Organization.
