One dimensional nanostructured materials

Graphene oxide (GO) is the product of chemical exfoliation of graphite. Due to its good dispersibility in water, high aspect ratio and excellent mechanical properties, GO is a potential candidate for use as nanoreinforcements in cement-based materials. In this paper, GO was used to enhance the mechanical properties of ordinary Portland cement paste. The introduction of 0.05 wt% GO can increase the GO-cement composite compressive strength by 15-33% and the flexural strength by 41-59%, respectively. Scanning electron microscope imaging of the GO-cement composite shows the high crack tortuosity, indicating that the two-dimensional GO sheet may form a barrier to crack propagation. Consequently, the GO-cement composite shows a broader stress-strain curve within the post-peak zone, leading to a less sudden failure. The addition of GO also increases the surface area of the GO-cement composite. This is attributed to increasing the production of calcium silicate hydrate. The results obtained in this investigation suggest that GO has potential for being used as nano-reinforcements in cement-based composite materials.

Mechanical properties and microstructure of a graphene oxide-cement composite

Through this paper, we studied on the basic concept of vibration-induced power generation for urban infrastructures. Since the travelling of automobiles on the bridge cause vibration, it is possible to convert the vibration energy into green-electric energy by utilizing magnetic induction technology. In this paper we define the concept of green-bridge vibration power generation system which contains the concept of magnetic induction technology and propose a vibration power generation device for converting the bridge vibration energy into the electric energy. Also, an experiment was held by applying the vibration power generator on a real bridge. The results showed the applicability and effectiveness of the vibration power generator.

A Basic Experimental Study on Vibration Power Generation Using Bridge Vibration

Roads play a crucial role in societal infrastructure as a main artery for the economy and lives of people. However, numerous deformations are caused by an increasing number of overloaded vehicles. Accordingly, an efficient managing system for preventing overloaded vehicles could be organised by using the road as a scale by applying a genetic algorithm to analyse the load and drive information of vehicles. First, accurate analysis of loads by using the behaviour of the road itself is needed to solve illegal axle manipulation problems of overloaded vehicles and to install intelligent embedded load analysis systems. Accordingly, to use the road behaviour, the transformation in this way was measured by installing an underground box-type indoor model, and an indoor experiment was conducted by using a genetic algorithm. After five driving sessions with each vehicle, 50 sets of dynamic responding data were attained. The recognition variables were calculated to be within the error range of 10%.

Study of intelligent load analysis system using genetic algorithm

This paper presents the long-term dynamic characteristics of a cable-stayed bridge where installed the SHM (Structural Health Monitoring) system. Modal parameters such as natural frequencies and mode shapes were identified from the modal analysis using the three-dimensional finite element model. The modal parameters of the developed baseline model have a good correlation with those identified from field ambient vibrations. By the analysis of correlations between the measured natural frequencies and temperatures, it was found the natural frequency was in linearly inverse proportion to the temperature. Mode shapes were extracted from the TDD (Time Domain Decomposition) technique for ambient vibration measurements. Finally, these results demonstrate that the TDD technique can apply to identify modal parameters of large-scaled bridges.
