Earthworms Building Up Soil Microbiota, a Review

TL;DR: The objective of this review is to synthesize the existing literature concerning the influence of earthworms on the structure and function of soil microbial communities, as well as to understand how earthworm-induced changes in the soil microbiota would in turn impact soil processes, particularly those occurring in the rhizosphere and involved in plant growth and health.
Journal ArticleDOI

Local knowledge of impacts of tree cover on ecosystem services in smallholder coffee production systems

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored farmers' knowledge regarding how trees affect coffee productivity and ecosystem services in Costa Rica and concluded that technical interventions addressing the improvement of coffee plantations are more likely to be successful if they take into account not only the scientific information on agroforestry interactions but also the knowledge possessed by farmers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessing ecosystem services from multifunctional trees in pastures using Bayesian belief networks

TL;DR: It is demonstrated how the identification of portfolios of multifunctional trees can satisfy a profile of desired ecosystem services prioritized by the farmer, and concluded that Bayesian belief networks are a promising modeling technique for multi-criteria decisions in farm adaptation processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ecosystem Services to Enhance Coastal Resilience in Mexico: The Gap between the Perceptions of Decision-Makers and Academics

TL;DR: Martinez et al. as mentioned in this paper assessed the respective perceptions of academics and decision-makers concerning the relationships (dependence and impact) between economic activities and ecosystem services in coastal environments, and explored the potential for achieving informed decisions that are based on an effective and appropriate use of the concept of ecosystem services.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mixed Effectiveness of REDD+ Subnational Initiatives after 10 Years of Interventions on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

TL;DR: This article applied the before-after-controlintervention approach and quasi-experimental methods to evaluate the effectiveness of REDD+ interventions in reducing deforestation at municipal (meso) and community (micro) scales.
