Late Palaeozoic glacial cycles and subcycles in western Gondwana : Correlation of surface and subsurface data of the Paraná Basin, Brazil

TL;DR: In this paper, exposures of glacial cycles in the Upper Itarare Group in Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil, are analyzed, locally correlated and then linked to the three major glacial cycle previously described from subsurface studies along the basin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Facies and depositional architecture according to a jet efflux model of a late Paleozoic tidewater grounding-line system from the Itararé Group (Paraná Basin), southern Brazil

TL;DR: In this article, the plane-wall jet with jump model was used to analyze the sedimentary facies of the second glacial episodes of the Itarare Group in Gondwana during the Late Paleozoic.
Journal ArticleDOI

New glacial evidences at the Talacasto paleofjord (Paganzo basin, W-Argentina) and its implications for the paleogeography of the Gondwana margin

TL;DR: The Talacasto valley is an excellent example of a glacial valley-fill sequence that records at least two high-frequency cycles of the advance and retreat of a glacier into the valley.
Journal ArticleDOI

Timing of the Late Palaeozoic glaciation in western Gondwana: New ages and correlations from Paganzo and Paraná basins

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report new U-Pb zircon ages from a single glacial succession (Guandacol Formation) of 326 −± −3 ǫ and 320 −± ǔ 5 Á, which in comparison with neighbouring dated sequences allow for the first time a reliable estimate of the timing and duration of glacial cycles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Late Paleozoic Ice-Age rhythmites in the southernmost Paraná Basin: A sedimentological and paleoenvironmental analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, two distinct types of fine-grained rhythmites are identified based on the contact between couplets, couplets thickness, sedimentary structures, and geochemical proxies.
