Journal ArticleDOI
Toxic Acetaminophen Exposure Induces Distal Lung ER Stress, Proinflammatory Signaling, and Emphysematous Changes in the Adult Murine Lung.
Jeryl Sandoval,David J. Orlicky,Ayed Allawzi,Brittany Butler,Cynthia Ju,Caroline T. Phan,Roy Toston,Robyn De Dios,Leanna Nguyen,Sarah McKenna,Eva Nozik-Grayck,Clyde J. Wright +11 more
TL;DR: Following toxic APAP exposure, distal lung CYP2E1 expression is associated with APAP metabolism, tissue injury, and oxidant, inflammatory, and endoplasmic reticulum signaling, and this previously unrecognized injury may help improve understanding of the relationship between APAP and pulmonary-related morbidity.
Posted ContentDOI
Distinct upper airway epithelium interferon-stimulated and profibrotic gene expression between adult and infant rhesus macaques infected with SARS-CoV-2
Stephanie N. Langel,Carolina Garrido,Caroline T. Phan,T. Travieso,Todd DeMarco,Zhong-Min Ma,Rachel Reader,Katherine J. Olstad,Rebecca L. Sammak,Yashavanth Shaan Lakshmanappa,Jamin W. Roh,Jennifer Watanabe,Jodie Usachenko,Ramya Immareddy,Rachel E. Pollard,Smita S. Iyer,Sallie R. Permar,Lisa Miller,Koen K. A. Van Rompay,Maria Blasi +19 more
TL;DR: Observations suggest age-dependent differential airway responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection that could explain the distinction in pathogenesis between infants and adults.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prenatal Immunization to Prevent Viral Disease Outcomes During Pregnancy and Early Life
Ria Goswami,Carolina Garrido Pavon,I. Miller,Stella J. Berendam,Caitlin A. Williams,Danielle M. Rosenthal,M. Gross,Caroline T. Phan,Alliyah U. Byrd,Justin Pollara,Sallie R. Permar,Genevieve G. Fouda +11 more
TL;DR: The protective role of maternal antibodies against three categories of viruses: viruses that cause severe maternal disease outcomes with mainly indirect consequences to the fetus, those that are vertically transmitted from mother to their infants, and those that cause elevated disease severity among neonates and infants postnatally are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Challenges and Opportunities of Therapies Targeting Early Life Immunity for Pediatric HIV Cure
Stella J. Berendam,Ashley N. Nelson,Bhrugu Yagnik,Ria Goswami,Tiffany M. Styles,Margaret Neja,Caroline T. Phan,Sedem Dankwa,Alliyah U. Byrd,Carolina Garrido,Rama Rao Amara,Ann Chahroudi,Sallie R. Permar,Genevieve G. Fouda +13 more
TL;DR: The immune profiles of pediatric and adult HIV elite controllers are compared, the characteristics of cellular and anatomic HIV reservoirs in pediatric populations are discussed, and the potential values of current cure strategies using immune-based therapies for long-term viral remission in the absence of ART are highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dam-Infant Rhesus Macaque Pairs to Dissect Age-Dependent Responses to SARS-CoV-2 Infection.
Stephanie N. Langel,Carolina Garrido,Caroline T. Phan,T. Travieso,Hélène Fradin Kirshner,Todd DeMarco,Zhong-Min Ma,J. Rachel Reader,Katherine J. Olstad,Rebecca L. Sammak,Yashavanth Shaan Lakshmanappa,Jamin W. Roh,Jennifer Watanabe,Jodie Usachenko,Ramya Immareddy,Rachel Pollard,Smita S. Iyer,Sallie R. Permar,Lisa A. Miller,Koen K. A. Van Rompay,Maria Blasi +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper , two rhesus macaque monkey dam-infant pairs were inoculated with SARS-CoV-2 and conducted virological and transcriptomic analyses of the respiratory tract and evaluated systemic cytokine and Ab responses.
