Prevention of Endotoxin-Induced Systemic Response by Bone Marrow Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Mice
Jianguo Xu,Charles R. Woods,Ana L. Mora,Robert Joodi,Kenneth L. Brigham,Smita S. Iyer,Mauricio Rojas +6 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that BMDMSCs decrease both the systemic and local inflammatory responses induced by endotoxin, and this effect does not require either lung engraftment or differentiation of the stem cells and are due at least in part to the production of stem cell chemoattractants by the lungs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distinct Memory CD4+ T Cells with Commitment to T Follicular Helper- and T Helper 1-Cell Lineages Are Generated after Acute Viral Infection
J. Scott Hale,Ben Youngblood,Donald R. Latner,Ata Ur Rasheed Mohammed,Lilin Ye,Rama Akondy,Tuoqi Wu,Smita S. Iyer,Rafi Ahmed +8 more
TL;DR: These findings indicate that CD4(+) memory T cells "remember" their previous effector lineage after antigen clearance, being poised to reacquire their lineage-specific effector functions upon antigen reencounter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Loss of Junctional Adhesion Molecule A Promotes Severe Steatohepatitis in Mice on a Diet High in Saturated Fat, Fructose, and Cholesterol
Khalidur Rahman,Khalidur Rahman,Chirayu Desai,Smita S. Iyer,Natalie E. Thorn,Pradeep Kumar,Yunshan Liu,Tekla Smith,Tekla Smith,Andrew S. Neish,Hongliang Li,Shiyun Tan,Pengbo Wu,Xiaoxiong Liu,Yuanjie Yu,Alton B. Farris,Asma Nusrat,Charles A. Parkos,Frank A. Anania,Frank A. Anania +19 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that intestinal epithelial barrier function and microbial dysbiosis contribute to the development of NASH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anti-inflammatory effects of mesenchymal stem cells: novel concept for future therapies
Smita S. Iyer,Mauricio Rojas +1 more
TL;DR: This review focuses on animal models of lung injury, in which administration of MSC attenuates inflammation, and injury revealing a central role for MSC in mitigating pro-inflammatory networks and amplifying anti-inflammatory signals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interplay between regulatory T cells and PD-1 in modulating T cell exhaustion and viral control during chronic LCMV infection
Pablo Penaloza-MacMaster,Alice O. Kamphorst,Andreas Wieland,Koichi Araki,Smita S. Iyer,Erin E. West,Leigh A. O’Mara,Shu Yang,Bogumila T. Konieczny,Arlene H. Sharpe,Gordon J. Freeman,Alexander Y. Rudensky,Alexander Y. Rudensky,Rafi Ahmed +13 more
TL;DR: T reg cells effectively maintain CD8 T cell exhaustion during chronic LCMV infection, but blockade of PD-1 is critical for elimination of infected cells.
