Measurement of aerosol optical extinction at with pulsed cavity ring down spectroscopy
Anders Pettersson,Anders Pettersson,Edward R. Lovejoy,Charles A. Brock,Charles A. Brock,Steven S. Brown,Steven S. Brown,A. R. Ravishankara,A. R. Ravishankara +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a cavity ring down (CRD) system was used for measurement of the optical extinction of aerosol, and the system is tested with well-characterized laboratory generated aerosols, and measured extinctions agree within 5% of predictions by Mie theory.
summer: 1. Direct emissions and secondary formation of organic matter in urban plumes
J. A. de Gouw,Charles A. Brock,E. L. Atlas,Timothy S. Bates,Fred C. Fehsenfeld,Paul D. Goldan,J. S. Holloway,William C. Kuster,Brian M. Lerner,B. M. Matthew,Ann M. Middlebrook,Timothy B. Onasch,Richard E. Peltier,Patricia K. Quinn,Christoph J. Senff,Andreas Stohl,Amy P. Sullivan,Michael Trainer,Carsten Warneke,Robin Weber,Eric J. Williams +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, ship and aircraft measurements of aerosol organic matter and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) were made in fresh and aged pollution plumes from major urban areas in the northeastern United States in the framework of the 2004 International Consortium for Atmospheric Research on Transport and Transformation (ICARTT) study.
Journal ArticleDOI

Roberts,Frank Flocke,Gerhard Hübler,Gerhard Hübler,F. C. Fehsenfeld,F. C. Fehsenfeld +30 more
TL;DR: A ship emission plume experiment was conducted about 100 km off the California coast during the NOAA Intercontinental Transport and Chemical Transformation (ITCT) 2K2 airborne field campaign as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atmospheric emissions from the Deepwater Horizon spill constrain air‐water partitioning, hydrocarbon fate, and leak rate

R. Spackman,Harald Stark,Harald Stark,Carsten Warneke,Carsten Warneke,L. A. Watts,L. A. Watts +44 more
TL;DR: In this article, a new approach for rapid-response airborne assessment of future oil spills is presented, which quantifies the fraction of surfacing hydrocarbons that dissolves in the water column (∼33% by mass), the fraction that does not dissolve, and a fraction that evaporates promptly after surfacing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fehsenfeld,Fred C. Fehsenfeld,A. R. Ravishankara,A. R. Ravishankara +26 more
TL;DR: This article presented determinations of reactive uptake coefficients for N2O5 on aerosols from nighttime aircraft measurements of ozone, nitrogen oxides, and aerosol surface area on the NOAA P-3 during Second Texas Air Quality Study (TexAQS II).
