Randomized trials of aminoglycoside antibiotics: quantitative overview
Julie E. Buring,Denis A. Evans,Sherry L. Mayrent,Bernard Rosner,Theodore Colton,Charles H. Hennekens +5 more
TL;DR: A quantitative overview of all randomized studies comparing amikacin, gentamicin, netilmicin, sisomicin, and tobramycin was performed, finding that these aminoglycosides appeared equally efficacious, except that tobramYcin seemed less effective than sisomaticin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aspirin and decreased adult-onset asthma: randomized comparisons from the physicians' health study.
R. Graham Barr,Tobias Kurth,Meir J. Stampfer,Julie E. Buring,Charles H. Hennekens,J. Michael Gaziano +5 more
TL;DR: Aspirin reduced the risk of newly diagnosed adult-onset asthma in a large, randomized clinical trial of apparently healthy, aspirin-tolerant men; this result requires replication in randomized trials designed a priori to test this hypothesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Implications of overviews of randomized trials.
TL;DR: In this article, an overview of all available randomized trials is provided to increase the statistical power to detect an effect if present, and the overview can provide information about whether additional trials are warranted and, if so, the sample size that would be required to answer the research question definitively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Additive benefits of pravastatin and aspirin to decrease risks of cardiovascular disease: Randomized and observational comparisons of secondary prevention trials and their meta-analysis
Charles H. Hennekens,Frank M. Sacks,Andrew Tonkin,Wouter Jukema,Robert P. Byington,Bertram Pitt,Donald A. Berry,Scott M. Berry,Neville F. Ford,Andrew J. Walker,Kannan Natarajan,Chen Sheng-Lin,Frederick T. Fiedorek,Rene Belder +13 more
Journal ArticleDOI
A case‐control study of risk indicators among women with premenopausal and early postmenopausal breast cancer
Robert J. Lipnick,Frank E. Speizer,Chris Bain,Walter C. Willett,Bernard Rosner,Meir J. Stampfer,Charlene Belanger,Charles H. Hennekens +7 more
TL;DR: Among 714 premenopausal and 130 postmenopausal breast cancer cases matched with 8440 controls for age in years and menopausal status, risk indicators for breast cancer were similar, although most associations were stronger in the pre menopausal women.
