Journal ArticleDOI

Do physical and relational aggression explain adolescents' friendship selection? The competing roles of network characteristics, gender, and social status.

TL;DR: The results show that selection effects of both physical and relational aggression disappeared when network effects, gender, and social status were taken into account, suggesting that similarity in aggression among friendships can be considered to be mainly a by-product rather than a leading dimension in friendship selection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Socio-emotional well-being and academic achievement: evidence from a multilevel approach

TL;DR: In this article, a multilevel perspective was adopted to test the association among Chilean elementary students, considering features at individual (socio-emotional well-being, self esteem, and social integration) and social levels (classroom social climate and social network characteristics).
Journal ArticleDOI

Frequency-Domain Oversampling for Zero-Padded OFDM in Underwater Acoustic Communications

TL;DR: This paper explores frequency-domain oversampling to improve the system performance of zero-padded OFDM transmissions over underwater acoustic channels with large Doppler spread, using a signal design that enables separate sparse channel estimation and data detection and rendering a low complexity receiver.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multi-Modal and Multi-Temporal Data Fusion: Outcome of the 2012 GRSS Data Fusion Contest

TL;DR: Three awarded research contributions investigate a new metric to assess urban density (UD) from multi-spectral and LiDAR data, and simulation-based techniques to jointly use SAR and Li DAR data for image interpretation and change detection and radiosity methods to improve surface reflectance retrievals of optical data in complex illumination environments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optimizing Joint Erasure- and Error-Correction Coding for Wireless Packet Transmissions

TL;DR: This work investigates how to optimally combine the strengths of error- and erasure-correction coding to optimize the system performance with a given resource constraint, or to maximize the resource utilization efficiency subject to a prescribed performance.
