Journal ArticleDOI
Methylglyoxal modification of Na v 1.8 facilitates nociceptive neuron firing and causes hyperalgesia in diabetic neuropathy
Angelika Bierhaus,Thomas Fleming,S. B. Stoyanov,Andreas Leffler,Andreas Leffler,Alexandru Babes,Alexandru Babes,Cristian Neacsu,Susanne K. Sauer,Mirjam Eberhardt,Martina Schnölzer,Felix Lasischka,Winfried Neuhuber,Tatjana I. Kichko,Ilze Konrade,Ralf Elvert,Walter Mier,Valdis Pirags,Ivan K. Lukic,Michael Morcos,Thomas Dehmer,Naila Rabbani,Paul J. Thornalley,Diane Edelstein,Carla Nau,Josephine M. Forbes,Per M. Humpert,Markus Schwaninger,Dan Ziegler,David M. Stern,Mark E. Cooper,Uwe Haberkorn,Michael Brownlee,Peter W. Reeh,Peter P. Nawroth +34 more
TL;DR: It is found that concentrations of plasma methylglyoxal above 600 nM discriminate between diabetes-affected individuals with pain and those without pain, which provides a new basis for the design of therapeutic interventions for painful diabetic neuropathy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photosensitization in Porphyrias and Photodynamic Therapy Involves TRPA1 and TRPV1
Alexandru Babes,Susanne K. Sauer,Lavanya Moparthi,Tatjana I. Kichko,Cristian Neacsu,Barbara Namer,Milos R. Filipovic,Peter M. Zygmunt,Peter W. Reeh,Michael Fischer +9 more
TL;DR: This study elucidates the underlying molecular transduction mechanism and identifies potential targets of therapy, and suggests a therapeutic use of the pertinent antagonists in clinical development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inherited Pain: SODIUM CHANNEL NAV1.7 A1632T MUTATION CAUSES ERYTHROMELALGIA DUE TO A SHIFT OF FAST INACTIVATION
Mirjam Eberhardt,Julika Nakajima,Alexandra B. Klinger,Cristian Neacsu,Kathrin Hühne,Andrias O. O'Reilly,Andreas M. Kist,AK Lampe,Kerstin Fischer,Jane Gibson,Carla Nau,Carla Nau,Andreas Winterpacht,Angelika Lampert,Angelika Lampert +14 more
TL;DR: A new mutation of Nav1.7, A1632T, found in a patient suffering from IEM displays physiological changes associated with erythromelalgia and paroxysmal extreme pain disorder mutations and produces symptoms of both disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
TRPM8, a Sensor for Mild Cooling in Mammalian Sensory Nerve Endings
TL;DR: The current status of knowledge regarding the (patho)physiological role(s) of TRPM8, its modulation by inflammatory mediators, the signaling pathways involved in this regulation, and the biophysical properties of the channel are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pattern of Functional TTX-Resistant Sodium Channels Reveals a Developmental Stage of Human iPSC- and ESC-Derived Nociceptors.
Esther Eberhardt,Steven Havlicek,Diana Schmidt,Andrea S. Link,Cristian Neacsu,Zacharias Kohl,Martin Hampl,Andreas M. Kist,Alexandra B. Klinger,Carla Nau,Jürgen Schüttler,Christian Alzheimer,Jürgen Winkler,Barbara Namer,Beate Winner,Angelika Lampert,Angelika Lampert +16 more
TL;DR: Using a chemical-based approach, nociceptive sensory neurons from HUES6 embryonic stem cells and retrovirally reprogrammed induced hPSCs derived from fibroblasts are generated and shown tetrodotoxin-sensitive and voltage-gated sodium currents, which are in contrast to their counterparts from rodent dorsal root ganglia.
