Journal ArticleDOI
Treatment of bile duct lesions after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
Jacques J. Bergman,G R van den Brink,E. A. J. Rauws,L. T. de Wit,Huug Obertop,Kees Huibregtse,G. N. J. Tytgat,D. J. Gouma +7 more
TL;DR: Most type A and B bile duct injuries after laparoscopic cholecystectomy (80%) can be treated endoscopically and in patients with more severe ductal injury (type C and D) reconstructive surgery is eventually required in 70%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgical treatment of patients with acute cholecystitis: Tokyo Guidelines
Yuichi Yamashita,Tadahiro Takada,Yoshifumi Kawarada,Yuji Nimura,Masahiko Hirota,Fumihiko Miura,Toshihiko Mayumi,Masahiro Yoshida,Steven M. Strasberg,Henry A. Pitt,Eduardo de Santibañes,Jacques Belghiti,Markus W. Büchler,D. J. Gouma,Sheung Tat Fan,Serafin C. Hilvano,Joseph Lau,Sun Whe Kim,Giulio Belli,John A. Windsor,Kui Hin Liau,Vibul Sachakul +21 more
TL;DR: The timing of and the optimal surgical treatment of acute cholecystitis are described in a question-and-answer format and the timing and approach to the surgical management in patients with acute CholecyStitis is still a matter of controversy.
Journal Article
Bile duct injury during laparoscopic and conventional cholecystectomy
D. J. Gouma,P. M. N. Y. H. Go +1 more
TL;DR: The risk of bile duct injury after laparoscopic cholecystectomy was significantly higher than that found in literature, which probably reflects the fact that the number of "repair procedures" instead of registration of complications (injury) was studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of preoperative internal and external biliary drainage on mortality of jaundiced rats.
TL;DR: The findings confirm the poor results of preoperative external drainage in previous studies and establish the efficacy of internal biliary drainage in a well-controlled experimental model that has to be evaluated in the clinical situation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term Impact of Bile Duct Injury on Morbidity, Mortality, Quality of Life, and Work Related Limitations.
Klaske A. C. Booij,Philip R. de Reuver,Susan van Dieren,Otto M. van Delden,Erik A.J. Rauws,Olivier R. Busch,Thomas M. van Gulik,D. J. Gouma +7 more
TL;DR: Although the clinical outcome of multidisciplinary treatment of bile duct injury is good, it is associated with a significant decrease in QoL, loss of productivity in both paid and unpaid work and high rates of disability benefits use.
