Recent Results From the EU POF-PLUS Project: Multi-Gigabit Transmission Over 1 mm Core Diameter Plastic Optical Fibers

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple intensity-modulated direct-detection system with pulse amplitude or digital multi-tone modulation techniques, low-cost transceivers and easy to install large-core POFs is demonstrated that multi-gigabit transmission up to 10 Gbit/s over 1-mm core diameter POF infrastructure is feasible.
Journal ArticleDOI

Beyond 1 Gbit/s Transmission Over 1 mm Diameter Plastic Optical Fiber Employing DMT for In-Home Communication Systems

TL;DR: In this article, transmission rates between 5.3 and 7.6 Gbit/s are achieved for fiber lengths between 10 and 50 m using discrete multi-tone modulation (DMT) in an intensity modulated direct detection system using directly modulated eye-safe VCSEL and silicon photodiode (PD).
Proceedings ArticleDOI

First demonstration of HD video distribution over large-core POF employing UWB for in-home networks

TL;DR: This work demonstrates a proof of concept real time HD video stream delivery over 50m 1mm core diameter plastic optical fiber and 3m wireless link employing MB-OFDM UWB technology for in-home networks.
Journal ArticleDOI

Performance Evaluation of IR-UWB in Short-Range Fiber Communication Using Linear Combination of Monocycles

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple pulse design technique with a high fractional bandwidth was proposed for impulse radio ultrawideband (UWB) over fiber using a linear combination of the first-order Gaussian derivatives with different pulse-shaping factors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wired and wireless multi-service transmission over 1mm-core GI-POF for in-home networks

TL;DR: Simultaneous transmission of broadband wired and wireless signals over 50 m 1mm-core GI-POF is demonstrated for the first time in this article, where 2.2 and 528 MHz 200Mbit/s UWB wireless signals are delivered with BER < 10−3 and EVM < 15.5%, respectively, in accordance with WiMedia standards.
