Circulating endotoxemia: a novel factor in systemic inflammation and cardiovascular disease in chronic kidney disease.
Christopher W. McIntyre,Laura E. A. Harrison,Mohamed Tarek Eldehni,Helen J. Jefferies,Cheuk-Chun Szeto,Stephen G. John,Mhairi K. Sigrist,James O. Burton,Daljit Hothi,Shvan Korsheed,Paul J. Owen,Ka-Bik Lai,Philip Kam-Tao Li +12 more
TL;DR: CKD patients are characteristically exposed to significant endotoxemia, and HD-induced systemic circulatory stress and recurrent regional ischemia may lead to increased endotoxin translocation from the gut, highlighting the potential toxicity of conventional HD and providing a novel set of potential therapeutic strategies to reduce CV mortality in CKD patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The need to move away from a "one-size-fits-all" approach to dialysis and provide more individualized care that incorporates patient goals and preferences while still maintaining best practices for quality and safety is represented during the KDIGO conference.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pediatric Myocardial Stunning Underscores the Cardiac Toxicity of Conventional Hemodialysis Treatments
TL;DR: These data, in combination with previous adult studies of intradialytic myocardial blood flow, suggest a characteristic cardiovascular phenotype in HD patients that predisposes to significant demand ischemia.
