Metallic Phase with Long-Range Orientational Order and No Translational Symmetry

TL;DR: In this article, a metallic solid with long-range orientational order, but with icosahedral point group symmetry, which is inconsistent with lattice translations, was observed and its diffraction spots are as sharp as those of crystals but cannot be indexed to any Bravais lattice.
Book ChapterDOI

Metallic Phase with Long-Range Orientational Order and No Translational Symmetry

TL;DR: The icosahedral point group symmetry was shown to be inconsistent with lattice translations in the case of a metallic solid with point group symmetery rn35 (icosahedral) as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Indexing of icosahedral quasiperiodic crystals

TL;DR: In this article, the extinction rules for three of the five icosahedral Bravais quasilattices are compared, and some simple relationships with the six-dimensional cut and projection crystallography are derived.
Journal ArticleDOI

The microstructure of rapidly solidified Al 6 Mn

TL;DR: In this article, the microstructure of rapidly solidified Al−Mn alloys containing 18 to 25.3 wt pct Mn was studied by transmission electron microscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Effect of Rapid Solidification Velocity on the Microstructure of Ag-Cu Alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of Ag-Cu alloys between 1 wt pct Cu and the eutectic composition (28.1 wtpct Cu) at speeds between 1.5 and 400 cm per second were used for beam solidification.
