Journal ArticleDOI

Intermediate band solar cells: Recent progress and future directions

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed discussion on the thermodynamics of solar energy conversion in IBSCs, the device physics, and the carrier dynamics processes with a particular emphasis on the two-step inter-subband absorption/recombination processes that are of paramount importance in a successful implementation high-efficiency IBSC.
Book ChapterDOI

Luminescent solar concentrators

TL;DR: In this article, a review of recent work by the Quantum Photovoltaic Group (QPV) at Imperial College London and their collaborators in the application of nanostructures to efficiently harvest light within the luminescent solar concentrator (LSC).
Journal ArticleDOI

Photon ratchet intermediate band solar cells

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an innovative concept for solar power conversion called the "photon ratchet" intermediate band solar cell (IBSC), which may increase the photovoltaic energy conversion efficiency of IBSCs by increasing the lifetime of charge carriers in the intermediate state.
