Journal ArticleDOI
A Poxvirus-Encoded Pyrin Domain Protein Interacts with ASC-1 to Inhibit Host Inflammatory and Apoptotic Responses to Infection
James B. Johnston,John W. Barrett,Steven H. Nazarian,Steven H. Nazarian,Megan Goodwin,Daniel R. Ricciuto,Gen Wang,Grant McFadden,Grant McFadden +8 more
TL;DR: The identification and characterization of a poxvirus-encoded PYD-containing protein that interacts with the ASC-1 component of the inflammasome and inhibits caspase-1 activation and the processing of IL-1beta and IL-18 induced by diverse stimuli is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of Infectious Disease Consultation on Quality of Care, Mortality and Length of Stay in Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia: Results from a Large Multicenter Cohort Study
Anthony D. Bai,Adrienne Showler,Lisa Burry,Marilyn Steinberg,Daniel R. Ricciuto,Tania Fernandes,Anna Chiu,Sumit Raybardhan,Eshan Fernando,George Tomlinson,Chaim M. Bell,Andrew Morris +11 more
TL;DR: Quality measures of management including echocardiography, repeat blood culture, removal of infectious foci, and antibiotic therapy were compared between ID consultation and no ID consultation groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Angiopoietin-1 and angiopoietin-2 as clinically informative prognostic biomarkers of morbidity and mortality in severe sepsis.
Daniel R. Ricciuto,Claudia C. dos Santos,Michael Hawkes,Lisa J. Toltl,Andrea L. Conroy,Nimerta Rajwans,Erin I. Lafferty,Deborah J. Cook,Alison Fox-Robichaud,Kamyar Kahnamoui,Kevin C. Kain,Patricia C. Liaw,W. Conrad Liles +12 more
TL;DR: The use of angiopoietins as clinically informative biomarkers of disease severity and patient outcome in severe sepsis is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
ACVIM consensus statement on therapeutic antimicrobial use in animals and antimicrobial resistance.
J. S. Weese,S. Giguère,Luca Guardabassi,Paul S. Morley,Mark G. Papich,Daniel R. Ricciuto,Jane E. Sykes +6 more
TL;DR: This consensus statement aims to provide guidance on the therapeutic use of antimicrobials in animals, balancing the need for effective therapy with minimizing development of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria from animals and humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative effectiveness of cefazolin versus cloxacillin as definitive antibiotic therapy for MSSA bacteraemia: results from a large multicentre cohort study
Anthony D. Bai,Adrienne Showler,Lisa Burry,Marilyn Steinberg,Daniel R. Ricciuto,Tania Fernandes,Anna Chiu,Sumit Raybardhan,Eshan Fernando,George Tomlinson,Chaim M. Bell,Andrew Morris +11 more
TL;DR: Cefazolin was associated with non-significantly more relapses compared with cloxacillin, especially in deep-seated S. aureus infections, but there was no significant clinical difference in the treatment of MSSA bacteraemia with respect to mortality.
