Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of indoor air quality of day care centers in children with different predisposition for asthma
Pedro Carreiro-Martins,Ana Luísa Papoila,Iolanda Caires,Susana Garrido Azevedo,Maria Manuela Cano,Daniel Virella,Paula Leiria-Pinto,João Paulo Teixeira,José Rosado-Pinto,Isabella Annesi-Maesano,Nuno Neuparth +10 more
TL;DR: Scarce information is available about the relationships between indoor air quality (IAQ) at day care centers (DCC) and the estimated predisposition for asthma, and the actual wheezing susceptibility.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Origin of the Cerebral Palsies: Contribution of Population-Based Neuroimaging Data
Veronka Horber,Elodie Sellier,Karen Horridge,Gija Rackauskaite,Guro L. Andersen,Daniel Virella,Els Ortibus,Ivana Dakovic,Owen Hensey,Anja Radsel,Antigone Papavasiliou,Javier Cruz De la,Catherine Arnaud,Catherine Arnaud,Ingeborg Krägeloh-Mann,Kate Himmelmann +15 more
TL;DR: Analysis of MRI in the European CP database identified CP as a mainly lesional condition on a large population basis, maldevelopments were relatively uncommon, and the decreasing prevalence of CP in this group suggests that progress in perinatal and neonatal medicine may lead to a reduction of these lesions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is intrauterine growth appropriate to monitor postnatal growth of preterm neonates
TL;DR: When using the useful 2013 Fenton Chart, data should be interpreted with caution taking into account two aspects: the physiologic loss of body water after birth for the weight curves, and the questionable accuracy of the birth length curves considering the heterogeneity and reliability of the methods used in the original measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fat mass index performs best in monitoring management of obesity in prepubertal children
Luís Pereira-da-Silva,Monica Pitta-Gros Dias,Elisabete Dionísio,Daniel Virella,Marta Alves,Catarina Diamantino,Anabela Alonso,Gonçalo Cordeiro-Ferreira +7 more
TL;DR: FMI achieved the best combination of ability and swiftness to identify reduction of adiposity during monitoring of weight management in prepubertal obese children.
Journal ArticleDOI
A simple equation to estimate the osmolarity of neonatal parenteral nutrition solutions
Luís Pereira-da-Silva,Daniel Virella,G. Henriques,M. Rebelo,Micaela Serelha,J.M. Videira-Amaral +5 more
TL;DR: Taking into account that an osmometer is not available in most clinical settings, the proposed equation appears to provide a quick and simple osmolarity calculation of neonatal parenteral nutrition solutions, thus allowing more accurate decisions to be taken regarding the choice of route and rate of administration of PN solutions.
