Equivalence of the Boson Peak in Glasses to the Transverse Acoustic van Hove Singularity in Crystals
A. I. Chumakov,Giulio Monaco,Alfonso Monaco,Wilson A. Crichton,Alexey Bosak,Rudolf Rüffer,Andreas Meyer,Florian Kargl,Lucia Comez,Daniele Fioretto,Daniele Fioretto,H. Giefers,S. Roitsch,Gerhard Wortmann,Murli H. Manghnani,Anwar Hushur,Quentin Williams,Judit Balogh,Krzysztof Parlinski,Paweł T. Jochym,Przemysław Piekarz +20 more
TL;DR: The atomic dynamics of the glass to that of the relevant crystal suggests the identical nature of the two features, including the boson peak, which matches the TA singularity in energy and height.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two crossover regions in the dynamics of glass forming epoxy resins
Silvia Corezzi,Mario Beiner,Heiko Huth,K. Schröter,Simone Capaccioli,Riccardo Casalini,Daniele Fioretto,E. Donth +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the dynamic glass transition of two glass-forming epoxy resins, poly [(phenyl glycidyl ether)-co-formaldehyde] and diglycidyl acid of bisphenol-A. The main transition has three parts: a process at high temperature, the a′ process between the two crossover regions, and the α process at low temperatures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for a crossover in the frequency dependence of the acoustic attenuation in vitreous silica.
Claudio Masciovecchio,Giacomo Baldi,Silvia Caponi,Lucia Comez,Lucia Comez,S. Di Fonzo,Daniele Fioretto,Daniele Fioretto,Adriano Fontana,Adriano Fontana,Alessandro Gessini,Sandro Santucci,Sandro Santucci,Francesco Sette,G. Viliani,G. Viliani,Paolo Vilmercati,Giancarlo Ruocco +17 more
TL;DR: Measurements of the sound attenuation coefficient in vitreous silica, for sound waves of wavelength between 50 and 80 nm, performed with the new inelastic UV light scattering technique indicate that in silica glass a crossover between a temperature-dependent and temperature-independent acoustic attenuation mechanism occurs at Q approximately equal to 0.15 nm(-1).
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of the glass transition on the secondary relaxation of an epoxy resin
TL;DR: In this article, the dynamics of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) was studied by employing broadband dielectric spectroscopy over a wide temperature range extending from below to above the glass-transition temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of densification on the density of vibrational states of glasses
Alfonso Monaco,A. I. Chumakov,Giulio Monaco,Wilson A. Crichton,Andreas Meyer,Lucia Comez,Lucia Comez,Daniele Fioretto,Daniele Fioretto,Józef Korecki,Rudolf Rüffer +10 more
TL;DR: The results reveal that, in the absence of local structure transformations, the Debye level and the glass-specific excess of vibrational states above it have the same dependence on density, and the evolution of the DOS is fully described by the transformation of the elastic medium.
