Journal ArticleDOI
The road towards polaritonic devices
TL;DR: The most important features of exciton-polaritons in microcavities are reviewed, with a particular emphasis on the emerging technological applications, the use of new materials for room-temperature operation, and the possibility of exploiting polaritons for quantum computation and simulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Collective fluid dynamics of a polariton condensate in a semiconductor microcavity
Alberto Amo,Daniele Sanvitto,Fabrice P. Laussy,Dario Ballarini,E. del Valle,M. D. Martín,Aristide Lemaître,Jacqueline Bloch,D. N. Krizhanovskii,M. S. Skolnick,Carlos Tejedor,Luis Viña +11 more
TL;DR: Using a coherent excitation triggered by a short optical pulse, a macroscopically degenerate state of polaritons are created that can be made to collide with a variety of defects present in the microcavity and opens the way to the investigation of new phenomenology of out-of-equilibrium condensates.
Journal ArticleDOI
All-optical polariton transistor
Dario Ballarini,M. De Giorgi,Emiliano Cancellieri,Emiliano Cancellieri,Romuald Houdré,Elisabeth Giacobino,Roberto Cingolani,Alberto Bramati,Giuseppe Gigli,Giuseppe Gigli,Daniele Sanvitto +10 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates a scheme of all-optical transistor based on exciton polaritons in semiconductor microcavities, which exhibits full connectivity in the same chip plane.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spontaneous formation and optical manipulation of extended polariton condensates
Esther Wertz,Lydie Ferrier,Dmitry Solnyshkov,R. Johne,Daniele Sanvitto,Aristide Lemaître,Isabelle Sagnes,Roger Grousson,Alexey Kavokin,Pascale Senellart,Guillaume Malpuech,Jacqueline Bloch +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a long-lived polariton condensates can propagate well beyond the area of their initial excitation while still maintaining spatial coherence, which enables direct and controllable manipulation of the condensate wavefunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polariton Superfluids Reveal Quantum Hydrodynamic Solitons
Alberto Amo,Alberto Amo,Simon Pigeon,Daniele Sanvitto,V. G. Sala,R. Hivet,Iacopo Carusotto,Ferruccio Pisanello,Godefroy Leménager,Romuald Houdré,Elisabeth Giacobino,Cristiano Ciuti,Alberto Bramati +12 more
TL;DR: Using an interacting Bose gas of exciton-polaritons in a semiconductor microcavity, the transition from superfluidity to the hydrodynamic formation of oblique dark solitons and vortex streets in the wake of a potential barrier is reported.
