Complement associated microvascular injury and thrombosis in the pathogenesis of severe COVID-19 infection: A report of five cases.

TL;DR: At least a subset of sustained, severe COVID-19 may define a type of catastrophic microvascular injury syndrome mediated by activation of complement pathways and an associated procoagulant state, and could suggest targets for specific intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of qSOFA and SIRS for predicting adverse outcomes of patients with suspicion of sepsis outside the intensive care unit.

TL;DR: In patients with suspected infection who eventually required admission to the ICU, qSOFA calculated before their ICU admission had greater accuracy than SIRS for predicting mortality and ICU-free days, however, it may be less clear whetherqSOFA is also better than S IRS criteria for predicting ventilator free-days and organ dysfunction- free days.
Journal ArticleDOI

Respiratory Mechanics and Gas Exchange in COVID-19-associated Respiratory Failure.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report physiologic and clinical information from a large group of patients with COVID-19 during the first week of mechanical ventilation, and explore differences in respiratory mechanics between those with early mortality and successful extubation.
