This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. The Design and Analysis of Experiments

The air conditioning (AC) system provides cool, heating and ventilation in the cabin of the electric vehicles (EVs). It is necessary to control the interior thermal environments of the vehicle and ensure safety in visibility. Because AC systems are electrically powered, vehicle range is reduced drastically when the AC system is operating. EVs present a particular challenge to the development of more efficient AC systems for automotive applications. In this paper, the state of the art for various AC system solutions to EVs was critically reviewed. The investigations of alternative solutions are continuing along many parallel routes, e.g. vapor compression refrigeration-dedicated heater AC systems, reversible vapor compression heat pump AC systems, non-vapor compression AC systems and integrated thermal management system combined AC and battery pack. The characteristics and particular applications of each solution have been extensively discussed. Finally, a comparison listing the various pros and cons of the different available solutions was presented.

A cross-flow wind turbine has a high torque coefficient at a low tip speed ratio; therefore, it is a good candidate for a self-starting turbine. This study aims to investigate the best configuration between guide vanes and cross-flow vertical axis wind turbine. The experiment test was carried out to determine the turbine with the highest power coefficient. The cross-flow turbine has 14, 18, and 22 blades with using 6,10 and 14 blades of guide vane (GV) was developed in this study, employing 15°, 25°, 35°, 45°, 55°, 65°, and 75° of tilt angles in fifth different wind speed conditions 4 m/s, 6 m/s, 7.5 m/s, 9.20 m/s, and 11 m/s. The turbine has 22 blades with 14 GV blades at 55° of tilt angle blades producing more remarkable turbine performance improvement than other blades. The highest power coefficient (CP) of cross-flow using 14 GV blades at 55° was 0.0162 at 0.289 TSR, which increased around 59% of the turbine's performance using GV.

Turbin Savonius merupakan salah satu jenis turbin yang unggul dalam hal karakteristik awal (starting characteristic), mampu beroperasi pada kecepatan aliran yang relatif rendah, serta desain yang sederhana dan murah. Faktor inilah yang membuat turbin Savonius sesuai diaplikasikan untuk sistem pembangkit Piko Hidro, dimana daya keluaran yang dihasilkan sangat kecil yakni kurang dari 5 KW. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui turbin Savonius dengan sudut puntir ( ) yang paling optimal dan membandingkannya dengan sudu konvensional atau tanpa puntiran ( ). Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode computational fluid domain (CFD) dengan program SolidWorks 2011 untuk mengetahui sudut puntir yang  paling optimal. Variasi sudut puntir yang disimulasikan adalah  dan . Hasil simulasi menunjukkan sudut puntir  mempunyai nilai torsi paling tinggi. Dari hasil simulasi dapat disimpulkan bahwa sudu dengan puntiran (twisted blades) mempunyai nilai torsi yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan sudu konvensional atau tanpa puntiran ( .

The braking system is one of the most important components of a vehicle. In general, the brakes will generate heat due to the braking process. The heat generated must be released into the environment to maintain braking performance at optimal conditions. In extreme conditions, braking will fail. The braking system can be developed as a braking support system is a non-contact braking system. One form of the non-contact braking system is the eddy current brake (ECB). ECB is an electric braking system with the principle of eddy current. In the ECB, overheating will result in decreased performance. The approach that can be taken to determine braking performance during heat generation is the modeling process using FEM. This study uses FEM to analyze the heat generated during braking. In addition to using FEM, research was carried out using experiments as a comparison. Analysis of heat generation in braking is needed to determine whether braking with ECB can be a backup and its potential as a substitute for friction brakes. The results show that the ECB heat generation event that affects the temperature rise reduces the braking torque performance. Research indicates that when overheating occurs, braking performance will decrease by up to 10% when the disk surface temperature rises more than 20 °C. It shows the importance of managing heat that occurs in the ECB.

Analysis of Heat Generation on Unipolar Axial Eddy Current Brake Disc and Its Effect on Braking Performance

Among of the renewable energy sources, wind energy is the fastest growing. To achieve economic scale, the wind turbines are usually built as wind farms. There are some designs of wind farm that most of them are proposed for horizontal axis wind turbine type. However, there is no wind farm design for vertical axis wind turbine, such as crossflow wind turbine, yet. The crossflow wind turbine could be used to extract wind energy in low wind speed and has a high power coefficient. In order to be able to work perfectly, a proper arrangement of wind turbines on the wind farm should be determine to decrease wake. The objective of this research was to study the effect of the crossflow wind turbine arrangement in wind farm with 2 dimensional numerical analysis using ANSYS FLUENT CFD software. The variations of the wind farm in the study were aligned and staggered configuration, in which the distance between the turbines were 0.5D, 1D and 1.5D, where D was the turbine outer diameter. Each variation was tested at the wind speed of 2 m/s and tip speed ratio (TSR) of 0.1. The study revealed that the best arrangement of crossflow wind turbine configuration is staggered arrangement within the distance S1:S2 of 0.5D:0.5D. The wake effect in staggered arrangement doesn’t disturb surrounding the crossflow wind turbine in wind farm area, because the wind is blowing in streamline flow. The appropriate distance between wind turbines would increase the power density of the wind farm. Compare to an isolated crossflow wind turbine, there is 10% increase of power density.

Study of the wind farm arrangements and wake characteristic using numerical simulation for crossflow wind turbine

Tulisan ini membahas tentang analisa potensi energi angin di pantai Suwuk Kebumen dan perancangan turbin angin tipe H-Rotor yang sesuai dengan karakteristik angin di pantai tersebut. Analisa potensi energi angin menggunakan metode distribusi Weibull berdasarkan data kecepatan angin di lokasi pengukuran selama 2 tahun. Analisa distribusi Weibull menunjukkan karakteristik kecepatan angin di lokasi pengukuran yang akan dijadikan dasar dalam perancangan turbin angin H-Rotor. Perancangan turbin angin H-Rotor terdiri dari komponen-komponen seperti sudu, strut, dudukan strut, poros, tiang, dan generator. Diperoleh rancangan turbin angin H-Rotor dengan diameter x tinggi sebesar 2,7 x 2,7 meter menggunakan airfoil tipe NACA 0018 dengan kapasitas daya keluaran sebesar 1 kW.
