Journal ArticleDOI

Bacterial Extracellular Polysaccharides in Biofilm Formation and Function.

TL;DR: The diverse range of polysaccharide structures, properties, and roles highlight the importance of this matrix constituent to the successful adaptation of bacteria to nearly every niche.
Journal ArticleDOI

Caspase-7 Activation by the Nlrc4/Ipaf Inflammasome Restricts Legionella pneumophila Infection

TL;DR: Using the intracellular pathogen L. pneumophila, it is shown that, upon infection of murine macrophages, caspase-7 was activated downstream of the Nlrc4 inflammasome and required casp enzyme-1 activation, and a novel biological role for caspasing-7 in host defense against an intrACEllular bacterium is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa co-infection is associated with cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and poor clinical outcomes

TL;DR: CFRD patients, particularly those with extremely high blood glucose levels, were more likely than NGT patients to be co-infected with S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, compared to infection with only one pathogen, which may account for greater pulmonary decline in CFRD patients.
