Journal ArticleDOI

Postmenopausal hypertrophy of neurons expressing the estrogen receptor gene in the human hypothalamus

TL;DR: In this article, computer microscopy and in situ hybridization were used to investigate neuronal hypertrophy in the infundibular nucleus of postmenopausal women, showing that the mean cross-sectional area of neurons expressing the ER gene was twice as large as the mean area in premenopausal hypothalami.
Journal ArticleDOI

A novel group of nerve growth factor receptor-immunoreactive neurons in the ventral horn of the lumbar spinal cord.

TL;DR: These findings suggest that, in adults, a subset of spinal motor neurons may respond to NGF, and this population of nerve cells appeared to increase in size after treatment with NGF.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vasopressin and oxytocin gene expression in the human hypothalamus

TL;DR: It is found that a relatively sparse band of mostly ovoid, medium‐sized vasopressin neurons mingle with unlabeled neurons of the lateral hypothalamic area; these cells extend dorsoventrally from the region ventral to the stria terminalis to the ventrolateral hypothalamus, sometimes transgressing the boundaries of nearby nuclei.
Journal ArticleDOI

The development of intersegmental connections in embryonic spinal cord: an anatomic substrate for early embryonic motility.

TL;DR: In this article, an ultrastructural study of the embryonic chick spinal cord was designed to determine whether intersegmental inputs are formed before the closure of the reflex arc.
