Journal Article

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease. Lessons from model systems

TL;DR: The behavioral/neuropathological features of AD, the results of investigations of mechanisms of disease in model systems, and potential utility of some of these models for testing new therapies are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Immunocytochemical localization of tetanus toxin to synapses of spinal cord.

TL;DR: The distribution of staining terminals was similar to that of labeled synapses, visualized by autoradiography, after microinjection of either [125I]tetanus toxin or [3H]glycine, the latter a major inhibitor transmitter in the spinal cord.
Journal ArticleDOI

Abnormal acidic amino acids and N-acetylaspartylglutamate in hereditary canine motoneuron disease

TL;DR: Significant reductions in the levels of endogenous aspartate, glutamate, N-acetylaspartate (NAA), and NAAG were found in the spinal cord in homozygous but not heterozygous HCSMA, and the activity of N- acetylated-alpha-linked-amino dipeptidase (NAALADase), an enzyme that cleaves N AAG into NAA and Glu, was significantly increased.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fetal metachromatic leukodystrophy: pathology, biochemistry and a study of in vitro enzyme replacement in CNS tissue.

TL;DR: Brain tissue from a fetus with the diagnosis of metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) became available at autopsy; there was an increased level of sulfatide present in both fractions.
