Journal ArticleDOI
Cloning and expression of murine thrombopoietin cDNA and stimulation of platelet production in vivo
Si Lok,Kenneth Kaushansky,Richard D. Holly,Joseph L. Kuijper,Catherine Lofton-Day,Oort Pieter J,Francis J. Grant,Mark D. Heipel,Steve K. Burkhead,Janet M. Kramer,L. Anne Bell,Cindy A. Sprecher,Hal Blumberg,Rebecca A. Johnson,Donna E. Prunkard,Andrew Ching,Shannon Mathewes,Mason C. Bailey,John W. Forstrom,Michele M. Buddle,Sherri G. Osborn,Simon J. Evans,Paul O. Sheppard,Scott R. Presnell,Patrick J. O'Hara,Fredrick S. Hagen,Gerald Juergen Roth,Donald C. Foster +27 more
TL;DR: The functional cloning of a murine complementary DNA encoding a ligand for the receptor encoded by the c-mpl proto-oncogene is reported, and results strongly suggest that theligand for c-Mpl is thrombopoietin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Specificity of Leptin Action on Elevated Blood Glucose Levels and Hypothalamic Neuropeptide Y Gene Expression in ob/ob Mice
Michael W. Schwartz,Denis G. Baskin,Thomas R. Bukowski,Joseph L. Kuijper,Donald C. Foster,Gerry Lasser,Donna E. Prunkard,Daniel Porte,Stephen C. Woods,Randy J. Seeley,David S. Weigle +10 more
TL;DR: In ob/ob mice, systemic administration of leptin inhibits NPY gene overexpression through a specific action in the arcuate nucleus and exerts a hypoglycemic action that is partly independent of its weight-reducing effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interleukin 20: discovery, receptor identification, and role in epidermal function.
Hal Blumberg,Darrell C. Conklin,Wenfeng Xu,Angelika Grossmann,Ty Brender,Susan Carollo,Maribeth A. Eagan,Don Foster,Betty A. Haldeman,Angie Hammond,Harald S. Haugen,Laura J. Jelinek,James D. Dale,Yasmin A. Chandrasekher +25 more
TL;DR: A structural, profile-based algorithm was used to identify interleukin 20 (IL-20), a novel IL-10 homolog, and an IL-20 receptor was identified as a heterodimer of two orphan class II cytokine receptor subunits that are expressed in skin and are dramatically upregulated in psoriatic skin.

Production of fibrinogen in transgenic animals
TL;DR: In this article, materials and methods for producing fibrinogen in transgenic non-human mammals are disclosed. DNA segments encoding Aα, Bβ, and η chains of fibrINogen are introduced into the germ line of a nonhuman mammal, and the mammal or its female progeny produces milk containing FIB expressed from the introduced DNA segments.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-level expression of recombinant human fibrinogen in the milk of transgenic mice.
Donna E. Prunkard,Ian Robert Cottingham,Ian Garner,Susan Bruce,Michael A. Dalrymple,Gerry Lasser,Paul D. Bishop,Donald C. Foster +7 more
TL;DR: These studies represent the first report of high-level biosynthesis and secretion of a functional, complex, hexameric protein in the milk of a transgenic animal.
