Development of a 140-GHz 1-MW continuous wave gyrotron for the W7-X stellarator
G. Dammertz,S. Alberti,A. Arnold,E. Borie,V. Erckmann,G. Gantenbein,E. Giguet,R. Heidinger,Jean-Philippe Hogge,S. Illy,W. Kasparek,K. Koppenburg,M. Kuntze,H. P. Laqua,G. LeCloarec,Y. LeGoff,W. Leonhardt,C. Lievin,R. Magne,G. Michel,G. A. Müller,G. Neffe,B. Piosczyk,M. Schmid,K. Schworer,Manfred Thumm,M. Q. Tran +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors have developed a high-power gyrotron (118 GHz, 140 GHz) in continuous-wave (CW) operation for heating nuclear fusion plasmas for the W7-X stellarator at the IPP Greifswald, Germany.
Journal ArticleDOI
EU megawatt-class 140 GHZ CW gyrotron
Manfred Thumm,Stefano Alberti,A. Arnold,P. Brand,H. Braune,G. Dammertz,V. Erckmann,G. Gantenbein,E. Giguet,R. Heidinger,Jean-Philippe Hogge,Stefan Illy,W. Kasparek,H. P. Laqua,Francois Legrand,W. Leonhardt,C. LievinLievin,G. Michel,G. Neffe,Bernhard Piosczyk,M. Schmid,K. Schworer,Minh Quang Tran +22 more
TL;DR: The first series tube of the gyrotrons for the 10MW electron cyclotron resonance heating system of the stellarator W7-X was tested at Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (FZK) and yielded a total output power of 0.98 MW, with an efficiency of 31% (without a single-stage depressed collector) in short-pulse operation and 0.92 MW in pulses of 180 s (efficiency of almost 45% at a depression voltage of 29 kV).
Journal ArticleDOI
European high-power CW gyrotron development for ECRH systems
S Albertia,A. Arnold,Edith Borie,G. Dammertz,V. Erckmann,P. Garin,E. Giguet,Stefan Illy,G. Le Cloarec,Y. Le Goff,R. Magne,G. Michel,Bernhard Piosczyk,C. Tran,Minh Quang Tran,Manfred Thumm,D. Wagner +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a prototype of a 1 MW/CW 140 GHz gyroron for ECRH heating of fusion relevant plasmas. But the performance of the prototype was not evaluated.
