Journal ArticleDOI
Adoptive transfer of immunity to Theileria parva in the CD8+ fraction of responding efferent lymph.
Declan J. McKeever,Evans L. N. Taracha,E. L. Innes,Niall D. MacHugh,Elias Awino,Bruno Goddeeris,W. I. Morrison +6 more
TL;DR: Findings provide direct evidence that CD8+ T cells can control T. parva infections in immune cattle and enable adoptive transfer of this activity between immune and naive monozygotic twin calves.
Journal ArticleDOI
Theileria parva candidate vaccine antigens recognized by immune bovine cytotoxic T lymphocytes
Simon P. Graham,Roger Pelle,Yoshikazu Honda,Duncan Mwangi,Nyerhovwo J. Tonukari,Mat Yamage,E. Jane Glew,Etienne P. de Villiers,Trushar Shah,Richard P. Bishop,Evelyne Abuya,Elias Awino,James Gachanja,Anthony E. Luyai,Ferdinand Mbwika,Anthony M. Muthiani,David Ndegwa,Moses N. Njahira,John K. Nyanjui,Fredrick O. Onono,Julius Osaso,Rosemary Saya,Claude Wildmann,Claire M. Fraser,Ian Maudlin,Malcolm J. Gardner,Subhash Morzaria,Sheena M. Loosmore,Sarah C. Gilbert,J.C. Audonnet,Pierre van der Bruggen,Vishvanath Nene,Evans L. N. Taracha +32 more
TL;DR: The identification of five candidate vaccine antigens that are the targets of MHC class I-restricted CD8(+) CTL from immune cattle provide a basis for developing a CTL-targeted anti-East Coast fever subunit vaccine and orthologs of these antigen may be vaccine targets for other apicomplexan parasites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of the Fine Specificity of Bovine CD8 T-Cell Responses to Defined Antigens from the Protozoan Parasite Theileria parva
Simon P. Graham,Roger Pelle,Mat Yamage,Duncan Mwangi,Yoshikazu Honda,Ramadhan S. Mwakubambanya,Etienne P. de Villiers,Evelyne Abuya,Elias Awino,James Gachanja,Ferdinand Mbwika,Anthony M. Muthiani,Cecelia Muriuki,John K. Nyanjui,Fredrick O. Onono,Julius Osaso,Victor Riitho,Rosemary Saya,Shirley A. Ellis,Declan J. McKeever,Niall D. MacHugh,Sarah C. Gilbert,Jean-Christophe Audonnet,W. Ivan Morrison,Pierre van der Bruggen,Evans L. N. Taracha +25 more
TL;DR: Identifying the epitopes recognized in six T. parva-immune cattle of different major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genotypes demonstrated that the identified antigens are inherently dominant in animals with the corresponding MHC genotypes.
Journal Article
Bovine afferent lymph veiled cells differ from blood monocytes in phenotype and accessory function.
TL;DR: It is established that the capacity of ALVC to present soluble Ag to Ag-specific T cell clones resides almost exclusively in a subpopulation defined by the phenotype p110/75+ CD11a-.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of “one-pot, mix-and-read” peptide-MHC class I tetramers and predictive algorithms to improve detection of cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses in cattle
Nicholas Svitek,Andreas Martin Hansen,Lucilla Steinaa,Rosemary Saya,Elias Awino,Morten Nielsen,Søren Buus,Vishvanath Nene +7 more
TL;DR: The generation of seven recombinant bovine leukocyte antigens (BoLA) and recombinant Bovine β2-microglobulin from which p-MHC class I tetramers can be derived in ~48 h is reported on.
