Journal ArticleDOI

Antibiotic prophylaxis and recurrent urinary tract infection in children.

TL;DR: Long-term, low-dose trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole therapy was associated with a decreased number of urinary tract infections in predisposed children, and the treatment effect appeared to be consistent but modest across subgroups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antiviral medications to prevent cytomegalovirus disease and early death in recipients of solid-organ transplants: a systematic review of randomised controlled trials.

TL;DR: Prophylaxis with antiviral medications reduces the risk of cytomegalovirus disease and associated mortality in recipients of solid-organ transplants and should be used routinely in cytomeGalovirus-positive recipients and in cytomesgalov virus-negative recipients of organs positive for the virus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interventions for primary vesicoureteric reflux

TL;DR: Use of long-term, low-dose antibiotics did not significantly reduce the number of repeat symptomatic and febrile UTIs in children with VUR, and the added benefit of surgical or endoscopic correction of VUR over antibiotic treatment alone remains unclear.
Reference EntryDOI

Antibiotics for acute pyelonephritis in children

TL;DR: It is suggested that children with acute pyelonephritis can be treated effectively with oral cefixime or with short courses (2-4 days) of IV therapy followed by oral therapy and if IV therapy is chosen, single daily dosing with aminoglycosides is safe and effective.
