Comparative Genomics of Listeria Species
Philippe Glaser,Lionel Frangeul,Carmen Buchrieser,Christophe Rusniok,Alexandra Amend,Fernando Baquero,Patrick Berche,H Bloecker,P Brandt,Trinad Chakraborty,Alain Charbit,Farid Chetouani,Elisabeth Couvé,A de Daruvar,Pierre Dehoux,Eugen Domann,Gustavo Domínguez-Bernal,Eric Duchaud,Lionel Durant,Olivier Dussurget,K-D Entian,Hafida Fsihi,F García-del Portillo,P. Garrido,Laurent Gautier,Werner Goebel,Nuria Gomez-Lopez,Torsten Hain,Jörg Hauf,D Jackson,L-M Jones,U Kaerst,Jürgen Kreft,Michael Kuhn,F. Kunst,G Kurapkat,Encarnación Madueño,A Maitournam,J Mata Vicente,E Ng,Hafed Nedjari,G Nordsiek,Susana Novella,B de Pablos,José-Claudio Perez-Diaz,R Purcell,B Remmel,Matthias Rose,T Schlueter,N Simoes,A. Tierrez,José A. Vázquez-Boland,Hamut Voss,Jürgen Wehland,Pascale Cossart +54 more
TL;DR: A large number of predicted genes encoding surface and secreted proteins, transporters, and transcriptional regulators are found, consistent with the ability of both species to adapt to diverse environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
An in vitro assessment of the antibacterial properties and cytotoxicity of nanoparticulate silver bone cement.
Volker Alt,Thorsten Bechert,Peter Steinrücke,Michael Wagener,Peter Dr. Seidel,Elvira Dingeldein,Eugen Domann,Reinhard Schnettler +7 more
TL;DR: This new form of silver called NanoSilver was free of in vitro cytotoxicity and showed high effectiveness against multiresistant bacteria and may have a high interest in joint arthroplasty.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel proline-rich motif present in ActA of Listeria monocytogenes and cytoskeletal proteins is the ligand for the EVH1 domain, a protein module present in the Ena/VASP family.
Kirsten Niebuhr,Frank Ebel,Ronald Frank,Matthias Reinhard,Eugen Domann,Uwe D. Carl,Ulrich Walter,Frank B. Gertler,Jürgen Wehland,Trinad Chakraborty +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that ActA–EVH1 binding is a paradigm for a novel class of eukaryotic protein–protein interactions involving a proline‐rich ligand that is clearly different from those described for SH3 and WW/WWP domains.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel bacterial virulence gene in Listeria monocytogenes required for host cell microfilament interaction with homology to the proline-rich region of vinculin.
Eugen Domann,Jürgen Wehland,Manfred Rohde,S. Pistor,M Hartl,Werner Goebel,M Leimeister-Wächter,M. Wuenscher,Trinad Chakraborty +8 more
TL;DR: Within the cytoplasm of the infected cells, the mutant strain grew as microcolonies, was unable to accumulate actin following escape from the phagocytic compartment and was incapable of infecting adjacent cells, demonstrating that the capacity to move intracellularly and spread intercellularly is a key determinant of L.monocytogenes virulence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coordinate regulation of virulence genes in Listeria monocytogenes requires the product of the prfA gene.
Trinad Chakraborty,M Leimeister-Wächter,Eugen Domann,M Hartl,Werner Goebel,T Nichterlein,S. H. W. Notermans +6 more
TL;DR: The concomitant loss of multiple characteristics such as production of LisA, Pic, Mpl, and loss of virulence in a mouse infection model is the result of a mutation in a single gene and demonstrates that the prfA gene product is a positive regulator of multiple virulence determinants in L. monocytogenes.
