Journal ArticleDOI
Full-genome evolutionary analysis of the novel corona virus (2019-nCoV) rejects the hypothesis of emergence as a result of a recent recombination event.
Dimitrios Paraskevis,Evangelia Georgia Kostaki,Gkikas Magiorkinis,George Panayiotakopoulos,George Sourvinos,Sotirios Tsiodras +5 more
TL;DR: Evidence is shown that the novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) is not-mosaic consisting in almost half of its genome of a distinct lineage within the betacoronavirus, suggesting that the hypothesis that 2019-nCoV has originated from bats is very likely.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogenetic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 data is difficult.
Benoit Morel,Pierre Barbera,Lucas Czech,Ben Bettisworth,Lukas Hübner,Lukas Hübner,Sarah Lutteropp,Dora Serdari,Evangelia Georgia Kostaki,Ioannis Mamais,Alexey M. Kozlov,Pavlos Pavlidis,Dimitrios Paraskevis,Alexandros Stamatakis,Alexandros Stamatakis +14 more
TL;DR: Results of phylogenetic analyses, in particular those conducted under the default settings of current phylogenetic inference tools, as well as downstream analyses on the inferred phylogenies, should be considered and interpreted with extreme caution.

Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular epidemiology of HIV-1 infection in Europe: An overview.
Apostolos Beloukas,Alexandros Psarris,Polina Giannelou,Evangelia Georgia Kostaki,Angelos Hatzakis,Dimitrios Paraskevis +5 more
TL;DR: The study of HIV-1 epidemic diversity provides a useful tool by which to understand the history of the pandemic in addition to allowing us to monitor the spread and growth of the epidemic over time.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of the impact of weather and climate variables to COVID-19: In the absence of public health measures high temperatures cannot probably mitigate outbreaks.
Dimitrios Paraskevis,Evangelia Georgia Kostaki,Nikiforos A. Alygizakis,Nikolaos S. Thomaidis,Constantinos Cartalis,Sotirios Tsiodras,Meletios A. Dimopoulos +6 more
TL;DR: The increase in the number of cases observed during summertime in the Northern hemisphere, and especially in countries with high average ambient temperatures, demonstrates that in the absence of public health interventions, cannot mitigate the resurgence of COVID-19 outbreaks.
