Randomized Comparison of Artemether-Benflumetol and Artesunate-Mefloquine in Treatment of MultidrugResistant Falciparum Malaria
M. van Vugt,M. van Vugt,Alan Brockman,B Gemperli,Christine Luxemburger,Insa Gathmann,C Royce,Thra Slight,Sornchai Looareesuwan,N J White,N J White,F Nosten,F Nosten +12 more
TL;DR: Artemether-benflumetol (CGP 56 697; Novartis) and artesunate-mefloquine (MFO) were compared in 617 patients with acute uncomplicated multidrug-resistant falciparum malaria on the western border of Thailand.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population Pharmacokinetics of Piperaquine after Two Different Treatment Regimens with Dihydroartemisinin-Piperaquine in Patients with Plasmodium falciparum Malaria in Thailand
Joel Tarning,Joel Tarning,Elizabeth A. Ashley,Niklas Lindegardh,Niklas Lindegardh,Kasia Stepniewska,Kasia Stepniewska,Lucy Phaiphun,N P Day,N P Day,Rose McGready,Rose McGready,Michael Ashton,F Nosten,F Nosten,N J White,N J White +16 more
TL;DR: The data lend further support to a simplified once-daily treatment regimen to improve treatment adherence and efficacy and indicate that weight-adjusted piperaquine doses in children may need to be higher than in adults.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized Comparison of Artesunate-Atovaquone-Proguanil versus Quinine in Treatment for Uncomplicated Falciparum Malaria during Pregnancy
Rose McGready,Rose McGready,Elizabeth A. Ashley,Elizabeth A. Ashley,Eh Moo,Thein Cho,Marion Barends,Robert Hutagalung,Sornchai Looareesuwan,Nicholas J. White,Nicholas J. White,F Nosten,F Nosten +12 more
TL;DR: The results add to the growing body of evidence that AAP is safe for the mother and the fetus and are a well-tolerated, effective, practical, but expensive treatment for multidrug-resistant falciparum malaria during the second or third trimesters of pregnancy.
A case-control auditory evaluation of patients treated with artemisinin derivatives for multidrug-resistant
M. van Vugt,Brian Angus,Julie A. Simpson,C. Poletto,Saw Eh Htoo,Nicholas J. White,F Nosten,Tak Province +7 more
TL;DR: This study failed to detect any evidence of significant neurotoxicity in patients treated previously with oral artemether or artesunate for acute malaria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic typing of the 56-kDa type-specific antigen gene of contemporary Orientia tsutsugamushi isolates causing human scrub typhus at two sites in north-eastern and western Thailand
Stuart D. Blacksell,Stuart D. Blacksell,Rungnapa Luksameetanasan,Thareerat Kalambaheti,Nuntipa Aukkanit,Daniel H. Paris,Daniel H. Paris,Rose McGready,Rose McGready,F Nosten,F Nosten,Sharon J. Peacock,Sharon J. Peacock,Nicholas P. J. Day,Nicholas P. J. Day +14 more
TL;DR: There was considerable diversity in sequence, comparable to that seen in strains from across the scrub typhus-endemic world, and within this diversity there were also examples of isolates with identical 56-kDa genotypes that were cultured from patients from the same geographical areas.
