TL;DR: This is an international consensus statement of an ad hoc committee formed by the International Society for Mountain Medicine and represents the committee's interpretation of the current knowledge with regard to the most common chronic and subacute high altitude diseases.

A Genomewide Admixture Mapping Panel for Hispanic/Latino Populations
Xianyun Mao,Abigail W. Bigham,Rui Mei,Gerardo Gutiérrez,Kenneth M. Weiss,Tom D. Brutsaert,Fabiola León-Velarde,Lorna G. Moore,Enrique Vargas,Paul M. McKeigue,Mark D. Shriver,Esteban J. Parra +11 more
TL;DR: This report reports a genomewide AM panel with 2,120 AIMs showing high frequency differences between Native American and European populations, which will make it possible to apply AM approaches in many admixed populations throughout the Americas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a Panel of Genome-Wide Ancestry Informative Markers to Study Admixture Throughout the Americas
Joshua Galanter,Juan Carlos Fernández-López,Christopher R. Gignoux,Jill S. Barnholtz-Sloan,Ceres Fernandez-Rozadilla,Marc Via,Alfredo Hidalgo-Miranda,Alejandra V. TL;DR: A panel of 446 ancestry informative markers (AIMs) optimized to estimate ancestral proportions in individuals and populations throughout Latin America will be useful resources to explore population history of admixture in Latin America and to correct for the potential effects of population stratification in admixed samples in the region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Iron Supplementation and Depletion on Hypoxic Pulmonary Hypertension: Two Randomized Controlled Trials
Thomas G. Smith,Nick P. Talbot,Catherine Privat,Maria Rivera-Ch,Annabel H. Nickol,Peter J. Ratcliffe,Keith L. Dorrington,Fabiola León-Velarde,Peter A. Robbins +8 more
TL;DR: Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension may be attenuated by iron supplementation and exacerbated by iron depletion, as measured by the effect of varying iron availability on pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP).
Journal ArticleDOI
Acetazolamide: a treatment for chronic mountain sickness.
Jean-Paul Richalet,M. Rivera,Patrick Bouchet,Eduardo Chirinos,Igor Onnen,Olivier Petitjean,Annick Bienvenu,Francçoise Lasne,Stéphane Moutereau,Fabiola León-Velarde +9 more
TL;DR: Acetazolamide, the first efficient pharmacologic treatment of chronic mountain sickness without adverse effects, reduces hypoventilation, which may be accentuated during sleep, and blunts erythropoiesis.
